Wet Sanding or Comping Clear Coat Etching ?

    Wet Sanding or Comping Clear Coat Etching ?

    Giving this some thought after receiving a few opinions that this might be clear coat failure, is it possible to compound and/or wet sand these to remove them and then apply a layer of Mags Ultimate Wax ? Or will I need to head over to the body shop for a re-paint ? I believe this is mostly tree sap....


    So far I have tried.

    - Soaking for a few hours with Turtle Wax bug and tar remover
    - Wash and Clay Bar.
    - Iso alcohol
    - And lastly Meguiar's Ultimate Compound (by hand)

    If it's clear coat failure, then any sanding / compounding will only take off more clear coat. Unfortunately, the only way to properly fix it is to get it repainted.

    For a temporary 'fix' (or to make it look a bit better temporarily), you could lightly compound/polish the area, then apply Ultimate Wax. Maybe even some M7 after the polish and before the wax would help too, by covering things up a bit. But all that would probably only last a few weeks...

      I just took these photos as they give a better representation of the overall look in daylight. The former were taken with flash and over emphasized the etching.

      Also I'm not clear on exactly what 'clear coat failure' actually means and more importantly how I can determine if this is in fact what I have. Could someone please explain this ?




      As a side note my Sonata never looked this good before using M's products. These are taken after Ultimate Comp > Ult Polish > Ult Wax.
