  • M16 Professional Paste Wax - How To Work With

Hi, just ordered M16 to "enjoy the aesthetics of applying a paste wax by hand" and to enjoy the use of this classic '51.

What is the best way to work with M16?

    - how much product should be used on each step of the work?
    - how long has it to dry (finger test?)?
    - should I use a microfiber towel or absorbent cotton to wipe off?
    - any special hints to the work with M16?

    Thanks!

P.S.: Found that M16 "will not turn white on pebble textured black plastic trim"

Thin is the way to go. Apply it too thick and it can be difficult to remove. I get about 80 applications from a tin. I'm down to my last two unopened tins. I think these will last me until I'm too old to use them. I only use the #16 now as a winter topper. Still, it is a great looking and long lasting wax. I always enjoyed the application and removal of this product by hand, sort of like therapy for the old-school side of me. I also love the Crayola smell.

      Apply as thin as possible.
Finger test is a good indication
Use a microfiber (cotton can scratch my black vehicles)
Hint: Apply thin or you will destroy your elbow taking it off.

If this is your first experience with M16...you are going to love it. Unfortunately I cannot get it anymore and have gone to Ultimate Paste Wax. It comes off easier than M16 but it does not seem to shine, or last as long. and I HATE the smell UPW. M16 smells like a wax should. I love the smell of VOC in the morning.

Apply as thin as you can or try to work in sections, maybe 2-3 panels then after the last panel, remove the haze on the 1st panel. As with most waxes, drying time will depend on the weather (temp., humidity, etc) leaving it for too long may make it hard to remove.

Applying thin is definitely the right way to go, it is a GREAT wax. But if you go to thick, it's a pain to remove. Also important to prep the paint very well before hand; I used this once just to put a quick wax on my wife's car and hadn't clayed or polished in a while...definitely way easier if prepped properly first.

I've got a couple unused tins that I could sell you, not even sure what the going rate is on these, but I stocked up more than I needed too and I'll never use all that I have, especially since I'm falling in love with coatings now. Let me know if you're interested.

Thanks for the offer, however my brother-in-law in CT says he can get me some, and I can pick it up when we visit for Thanksgiving. If he is feeding me a line, perhaps I may contact you later and see if you still have them. Thanks.

Thanks a lot for your help!
I'm looking forward to get my M16 and start the work!

Has anyone experience with using M16 right after using Ultimate Liquid Wax (or other combinations with M16)?

Sounds good, I don't have them up for sale or anything, so I'd probably still have them. I just know I have more than I can use and would prefer someone gets them who appreciates it for what a great wax that it is.

For the sake of completeness ... I found these fine words towards #16 in an old thread:

"The way to use this wax is to take you wax applicator and spin in fast little circles in the can on top of the wax. This little bit of friction will liquefy the wax and in essence covert it to a liquid [on the surface] making it very easy to apply."

Everything, it seems, has to be "NEWER" or "NOW! IMPROVED!!!", it seems, in order to be considered worthwhile. Old technologies are now worthless; carburetors are thought of as damp sponges on top of the manifold. A drill has to be cordless and have a battery pack that lasts 6 hours and recharges in one. Are you still using a hammer? LOL, dude, where's your nail gun!

And then here is #16, well past 50 years old, still the same, still looking good, still playing beside the new guys and making a damn good show of it too. #16 tells us to look past the hype of "NEW! IMPROVED!!!" and to trust our own eyes. Using #16 is going back to roots; using #16 is getting in touch with old truths. #16 says that everything old is still new.

Yes, and doesn't take a lot of friction to liquefy and pick up sufficient product.

As for M16 on top of Ultimate, sure it can go well. But Ultimate itself already protects sufficiently (being a synthetic polymer with hydrophobic properties) and already has nice look to it. If Adding a coat of M16 may add more protection, it may be very minimal.

And I agree with the words of Mosca. As far as I am concerned, M16 is far better than UW. Damm those soccer Mom's and their hate for VOCs.

Oh my God! This is the Holy Grail of wax!
Never enjoyed the work with a wax more: M16 seems to talk to you while drying - you clearly see the changeover from wet to dry and can easy wipe it off at this point. Only a very, very little amount of the product is needed. Fantastic covering power! I'm used to work with Ultimate Liquid Wax - but M16 is covering the paint faster to reach a constant level of product on each point on the paint - really impressive! Earthy and honest handwork!
Never enjoyed the glaze more: the clarity and deepness of this shine is outstanding - to say M16 is a brilliant achievement of Megiuars is a strong understatement - now I understand why M16 is so successfull for more than 60 years: The best or nothing!
