Would this be clear coat , and what year did cars change from single stage paint. I will be cleaning this on the weekend. It belongs to family.

Re: 1995 Holden Calias
Don is spot on. If you get colour transfer onto your pad while polishing / compounding, then it has no clear coat (single stage).
From memory, a 1995 Calais is a VR or VS and it would have clear coat, unless it's white. But don't quote me on that.Originally posted by BluelineI own a silver vehicle and a black vehicle owns me. The black one demands attention, washing, detailing, waxing and an occasional dinner out at a nice restaurant. The silver one demands nothing and it looks just fine. I think the black vehicle is taking advantage of me, and the silver car is more my style. We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

Re: 1995 Holden Calias
Holden updated it's paint shop in 1993/4. The VR Series II of 1994 was the first to benefit. I purchased a Genesis blue Commodore 'S' in 1994.
I polished that car with Meguiar's pro products of the time and finished with Meguiar's Medallion Wax. Great reflective product for it's time!
I remember having a "heated" debate with a guy once who insisted my car had been re-sprayed with the best custom paint around. He would not listen to my assertion that it was a factory applied paint finish brought up to it's highest potential with quality products.
I guess the debate just proved what an improvement in paint quality the upgrade was. Oh and red and white weren't clear coated for a few years after this either.
