Swirl removal with DA

Hi Everyone, I recently bought a dual action polisher drill attachment from meguiars to remove swirls from my paint on my 2013 Hyundai Accent inflicted by a body shop after a repaint. After waiting a few months to let the paint cure,I bought and applied swirlx to the roof and hood panels by hand and was pleased to see the product removed a significant amount of light swirls. There are still swirls and light scratches on the rest of the car. I was just wondering if using swirlx, then ultimate polish will do the job and if using yellow buff pads for both would be sufficient for application.

Swirlx and ultimate polish are two similar products. One or the other would be the way to go. My personal preference is ultimate polish. The yellow pad will be fine. If you need to get more aggressive then I would recommend ultimate compound.

I'm just a little intimidated by UC but looking over this forum I hear great things about it for numerous applications.

No problem. We were all apprehensive at first about UC. But it's actually very user friendly and the results are always great. Try out either product (swirl x or UP). You could actually do a side by side comparison to see which gives you a better result. Then follow up with the wax of your choice. You are doing the right approach by doing a test spot with the least aggressive product.

If SwirlX did not remove all the defects you have a couple of options: 1) either work the SwirlX a bit long, with a bit more pressure, shrink the size of your work area or do some combination of these. Just using another, very mild polish after is not going to remove the remaining defects, or 2) step up to something more aggressive, in this case Ultimate Compound is the logical choice.

Remember, the first product will remove as much as it can, and anything left behind is more severe and will require more defect removing power to take out, not less. And you get that additional defect removing power by either working your existing product in a more aggressive manner, or using a more aggressive liquid or pad, or both.

Thank you to both The Guz and Michael for the advice. This forum is great, I can't believe how fast I got a response, just another perk of buying meguiars products.

I guess I was under the assumption that swirlx was more aggressive than UP and that I should follow up an abrasive with a polish, now that I know that they're both polishes with mild abrasives I understand using both is redundant. I will definitely go back and do a test spot with my new DA power attachment and yellow pad and see how that works. Thanks again guys
