So, my father in-law is a farmer and inherited a John Deere tractor from his father that just passed. It is a 1960 something tractor. I haven’t seen it but the paint is somewhat faded. Not too bad, but he was going to have it repainted. Then he heard me talking about detailing and that I had a DA this weekend and asked me if I thought I could maybe buff the paint on it so he didn’t have to repaint it. I said, I don’t see why I couldn’t give it a shot. Obviously single stage paint. John Deere Green. I don’t have any pictures of it and haven’t seen it so I don’t know how bad it is but it has been kept in a shed its whole life, so just average usage over all these years.
This isn’t going to be a show piece but won’t be used all the time either. He will use it some, he just wants it shined up.
So, my thought was that I could use my DA on it to bring the shine back and then maybe put a coat of UW on it. My question is, I have been talking in another thread about D151, would this be a good candidate for that? Or would something else be better? Also, what pad would I use? I have LC form pads and some Uber pads. I need to order some more pads.
So, kind of excited about the challenge of doing it and preserving the original paint on it for him. Any suggestions and comments are welcome.
Appreciate it!
