  • Wax Expiration?

I read a few threads but just wanted to verify. I have some paint cleaner, polish, and carnuba that I got about 2 years ago. They have been kept in the garage in temps anywhere from -10 to 95. I hadn't used them in a couple of years and tried the polish yesterday but it didn't seem to apply well. I switched over to my UP and it worked fine. Is it possible they went bad? I shook it for about 30 seconds.

    Re: Wax Expiration?

I left most of my detailing chemicals out in the garage all winter - ONCE. After I realized that over half of them were ruined, I never did that again. You'll have to look at each one to see if the ingredients have separated. If they have the product is likely toast and no good. Stored INSIDE during the winter, products can last for years.

Typically most products have a shelf life of 3-5 years, but it can go bad sooner or be perfectly many years after. Good practice is to store in room temperature away from extreme heat/cold and give the products a good shake maybe once every few weeks or so. That's why I love paste waxes, they seem to last forever as they are already solidified.

Until this site I was like all noobs. Just kept in an unheated garage. Although its insulated really well, still gets cold, and so now I move it all in the house in oct/ nov and don't come back out to the garage till mar/ apr. it's a small pain but the money we invest in these products is a small fortune for sum of us.

This is a good post to read. Haven't thought much of it, but now that I have alot of stuff, might be a smart idea to move stuff in. I too have an insulated garage and for the most part in the cold winter it stays around 40 to 50 degrees but on really cold snaps it can get lower. But never below freezing.

I keep my stuff in the basement. Still have some #16 and medallion sealant that are still good.

By and large, once a 'product' has frozen... it's pretty well kaput.

I (as well as many others) have some 10-15 year old 'stuff.' Takes a LOT of shaking to get it all mixed together, but it seems to still be okay. Paste waxes seem to last as long as a Twinkie.
