  • Detailing a Bright Yellow Challenger

    Howdy guys,

After about a 2 year break from detailing, I'm back in the game again. Detailing is something I do on the side, and was too busy there for a while. Glad to be back!

I have a Bright yellow Challenger I will be detailing this week, and I have never worked with Yellow before. I think the car is between 2-4 years old, and has never been detailed or waxed after he bought the car.

Is there anything "Special" I need to do, or to eliminate doing with this type of color. Especially with compounds or polishes I'm wondering if they'll be effective or worth doing.

The other thing I noticed is that it has that black racing stripe coming down the middle of the hood. Do you guys do anything with this, such as putting something like Ultimate black on it or anything, or do you leave that alone?

Thanks everyone, and have a great day!

    Welcome back.

Yellow can definitely benefit from a good polishing just like red or any other bright color. As always a test spot is recommended to see how the paint responds with the least aggressive product. In most case M205 or ultimate polish on a polishing pad is a good start.

What products do you have in your arsenal so we can point you in the right direction? Are you planning to fully correct the car or a quick wash and wax?

As far as those reacing stripes, be sure to tape off the edges if they are vinyl so they don't get any compound, polish or wax residue. Makes life easier on you. Also I have seen on here about using ultimate quik wax on vinyl stripes.

Found this thread. It may be useful for those vinyl stripes. Is the stripe gossy or matte?

I wouldn't put UB or any dressing on the stripes.

UQW is a good suggestion. Before UQW, you could even lightly polish them by hand with a mild product such as UP, or a cleaner wax (assuming they are glossy and not matte).

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

        Thanks guys,

I actually have the whole retail "Ultimate" lineup. Nothing of the professional line-up. I will be doing it by hand, I don't have a polisher yet. And Daaang-nabbit! I can't remember if it's Gloss or Matte, but I can go in prepared for either.

Thanks Michael, about taping the racing stripes. I would have forgot, and wasted alot of time trying to correct that.

Thanks to to you both, and Peace out!
