  • Cloudy Clearcoat

I recently purchased a 2011 Camaro RS. The previous owner didn't take good care of her. She had swirls an scratches in the clear coat. I used Meguiar's Medium Cut Cleaner and got out the vast majority of he scratches and swirls but it left a slight haze or cloudiness in the clear coat. It isn't noticeable unless under the right light but it is there. What can I use to take care of it?

    Thanks.

Id use m205. You need to refine the scratches that the medium cut put in. After that follow with gold class or ultimate paste wax. Are you doing this by hand or machine?

The M02 might also need to be broken down more. It's intended for use with a rotary buffer. m205, or Ultimate Polish are great options to follow up with.

            Re: Cloudy Clearcoat

Medium Cut Cleaner is sort of an old school, diminishing abrasive, rotary ONLY product and probably not the best choice for a modern clear coat. Add to that the fact that you applied it with a DA instead of a rotary and it's not a big surprise that you've got some hazing of the paint. Yes, it most likely did a decent job of removing the swirls and fine scratches, but the haze could probably have been avoided completely by using a different product, even our Ultimate Compound from the consumer line. Yep, on modern paint Ultimate Compound will likely out perform many of the older products in the Mirror Glaze Pro line, and that's because it's directly derived from M105 Ultra Cut Compound, meaning it utilizes the same advanced technology abrasives.

But, what's done is done and you need to remove the haze. Fortunately, that's pretty easy to do. Pick up some M205 Ultra Finishing Polish and apply it with either a foam finishing or polishing pad depending on the severity of the haze and how the paint responds. Of course, if you applied a synthetic wax over your last work with Medium Cut you should remove that first or it will slow down your M205 process if it's a pretty fresh application.
