  • Help! Got a scratch from my car being outside

    Hey Meguiar's community!

My new car has been living outside on the streets for a month now and someone parking scraped my rear left... On the picture, it shows as the marks are white but after wiping it down, it is all black but you can still see most of the scratches. Do you guys know if Meguiar Scratch X 2.0 removes those little scratches? and Do you think touch up paint is a better option or going to an auto body shop to get it fixed up?

    Best,
    Eric

If the scratches can be felt with a fingernail...Scratch X will not help. As for fixing it..it all depends on you. You can lather it up with touch up paint, never look at it again and live with it, or if you want it restored to new, take it to a body shop.

Looks like a lot of that is white scuff marks. You should be able to get those scuff marks off by hand using Ultimate Compound on a foam pad.

Couple of years ago my ex-car had a minor run in with another. The result looked VERY similar your pic. Even with insurance, the deductable cost to me would have been $500. I chose not to bring it to my local body shop. I spent lots of time using Ultimate Compound rubbing by hand and DA machine being as meticulous as possible. After a bit of touch up paint and some more TLC, 97-98% of the scrape marks were gone. While most others would never notice that there ever was a boo-boo, my eyes always went back to that spot afterward and saw the remaining 2-3% defect.
Moral is, you probably will never get the defect 100% resolved. If you can live with that, good for you. If not, bring it to the body shop.

Can you post a pic after you've done the 'wipe down'?

Might be able to provide a more accurate assessment that way.

You can try Ultimate Compound, IF that does not work then you would move up to DR Colorchip paint Repair sytem. It wont be perfrect like a re spray, but way better then you see now. Good luck.
