  • Question on Prep for Ultimate Wax

I've been using this for a while and really love it. Good durability, great look, and ease of use. My car is a fairly dark metallic grey, so I have been thinking of using a "glaze" like poorboys black hole. Does UW have any issues going over this? Is it a no-no?

    Thanks in advance

I'm pretty sure it's safe. After all meguiars M7 is a pure glaze and alot of people top that with ULW. So I can't see poor boys glaze being any different. But I don't know enuf about it to say for sure. But it's still a form of polish and that always gets topped with wax. I'm about 99.9% sure it's fine

Don't know why it would have issues, but also can't guarantee it won't.

If you're in doubt go for something like Meg's m07, or ultimate polish/deep crystal polish which are Meguiars glaze's and will definitely work OK with any Meguiars wax.

I would use Ultimate Polish instead, this way you will actually enhance the bonding of the ULW. UP is pretty much a glaze with a small amount of cut. Keep it all in the Meguiars family for best results! besides, their products are pretty darn good, and pretty hard to better, especially when you factor in the price.

I definitely agree with kris on keeping it all in the meguiars family. The only time I buy non meguiars products is only when meguiars doesn't carry it. But I agree with him on the up. I think the only time u really need to use M7 is at a car show, doesn't mean u can't use it any other time. But my opinion at least is that's more what its geared for. If u don't like the ultimate polish then go the M205 route. I've never used it but that's what everyone just raves about.

I've noticed that the Ultimate Polish label states "Pre-Wax Glaze". Does that mean it has filling ability as well as some light cut? Just curious.

I would say it has filling ability.

And yes, Ultimate Polish does provide a very light cut factor too if you work it with a DA.

                  Thanks for the response.

One thing I can say for sure is that the best beading I have ever had with ULW was this morning when I did a traditional wash on my car (we actually had rain this week....and the car was a mess. Rinseless with D114 would have worked well too, but it has been what seems like months since I did a traditional wash). The car was prepped with Ultimate Polish before I waxed the car a few weeks ago.

Thanks all. Is up easy to work with via a Ro polisher?

Yes, probably the easiest polish to use!

Re: Question on Prep for Ultimate Wax

Ultimate Wax is a pure synthetic sealant and sealants need bare paint to bond to. Waxes like M16/M26/Gold Class Carnauba Wax should be fine with a polish like Blackhole/Ultimate Polish/No. 7 Glaze underneath.

UW will bond fine a polish like ultimate polish, M7 and even blackhole.

Ultimate Polish is one of the more versatile tools in my arsenal. Earlier this week, I polished out some serious finger nail damage out of a Mustang with it, on a microfiber polishing disc. I've also used it for general "clean up" using a foam finishing pad. It's fast becoming my favorite general use polishing/glaze.
