  • How to Improve My Routine Seal/Wax Regimen

I have a 2 month old new black Cadenza that looks great. To get there I clayed, Ultimate Polish, Ultimate Paste Wax, then 24 hrs later Gold Class Paste Wax. A DA machine is used. I maintain with Gold Class Spray Detailer when needed (once or twice mid-week) and I apply Gold Class Quik Wax every weekend! This maintenance process works really well. I always have a deep, black, wet, looking finish (insert BIG smily here, LOL!).

But, after 6-8 weeks now, its time to seal with UPW and lay down a fresh coat of GCPW on top next day.

My question is... should I try to strip off the UPW and GCPW previously applied before laying on the new UPW/GCPW? Or, just simply go over the finish already there? The voices in my head say strip off the old, strip off the old.
What do you think and how would you suggest to remove the current finish if needed?

    Thanks,
    Coach

What makes it seem like it is time to re-do things? What deterioration did you notice?

I'm guessing he washes the car weekly? If so, I can see where he'd be thinking it's time to lay down a fresh coat of wax.
But with the Gold Class spray wax you've been using I'm pretty sure you could go a bit longer than 2 months..

If it was me I wouldn't really worry about needing to strip the old layer of wax. Just apply a thin layer of UPW and you should be solid.

Thanks Murr and Eldo. Yeah, I do wash weekly. No garage and it's my new daily driver.

I am seeing that the depth and longevity of my maintenance(GCQW) doesn't seem to be lasting as long as it was after the initial UPW and GCPW. For the first four weeks or so. I'd see no degradation of deepness/wet black look between maintenance. Now the past couple or three weeks the finish looks just "average" before I do my weekend maintenance. Maybe I'm just being too critical and no one but me is being judgmental, but my finish is telling me it's time to use the DA again!

So far I'm with Eldorado, no need to strip the old first?

If you are keeping the surface that clean, (daily dusting + weekly wash) you are probably fine to just re-wax, at least a couple times, before claying / UP again.

There's nothing wrong with waxing anytime of course, just dont want to have someone re-do something that is perfectly good. So if you see a drop off, or maybe water not running off as easily when rinsing, go for it.

I would post some pics, but first gotta figure out how. I know there's a button for it in the reply task bar, but its looking for a url rather than a computer file. I looked in the FAQ link but the info there is weak.

There is a really good thread from Mike Phillips on here about how to save pictures to your gallery here or in any forum and then post them and not use services like photo bucket like I have done up until this point. I will post it later when I get home if I can find it agian.

Here is the link I was thinking of. http://www.meguiarsonline.com/forums...-your-messages I use the Easy Thumbnails program and it works just like he says and it isn't any more difficult than moving into Photobucket. I have always used Photobucket for the forums for years and have some dead pictures for stuff that got moved around so this way really does make sense.

Exploreco, thanks a lot for the link. Lots of detail there. Saved as a Fav for now and I'll try to set this up in the next few days.

                          I'm eagerly awaiting some pics!

btw I agree there is no need to strip the old wax in this case...

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.
