    Re: products & the process

I used to use Bleche White for my raised white letters on my tires. This was a great product when it was made by Westley's but ever since Black Magic took it over, it seems to no longer work as well; even with their "new and improved" formula. Besides, that stuff is pretty caustic and smells terrible. I have been using Meguiar's All Purpose Cleaner mixed 4:1, sprayed on pretty heavy and then scrub with a stiff bristle tire brush and rinsed thoroughly. This has been working great for me - gets rid of all the brown crud on the tires and brings the brilliant white back out in the raised letters.

For the glass, I have used Invisible Glass and microfiber towels for several years. I love this stuff; it cleans well and does not streak.

As for using a DA polisher, they are quite safe to use, even in the hands of a novice. The forced rotation buffers are the tools that can be dangerous if not used correctly. There are a ton of "how to" threads and videos in these and other forums that show the process of using a DA and achieving excellent results without any fear of paint damage. However, even these tools if used too aggressively and with the wrong combination of compounds/pads certainly can cause problems. But as has been said by others here, there is a ton of experience in the users here and everyone is eager to share their knowledge and experience.

To make it real simple for u I suggest the detailer line as it has everything u need.

1- all purpose cleaner use inside and out
2- super degreaser for engine cleaning
Tires, carpet stains, and so on
3- window concentrate 1 gallon makes
      5 can't beat that like a broke d#ck
4- quick interior detailer for a matte finish with uv protection
5- last touch similar to ultimate detailer but can also b used for clay lube
6- xpress spray wax similar to ultimate spray wax as a booster
7- non acid wheel cleaner pretty self explanatory
8- all season dressing use for engine detailing just spray after cleaning also used for tire dressing can b diluted down for ur matte finish
9- shampoo plus but u can do gold class or ultimate wash n wax or deep crystal
10- I didnt add the xpress wax but is a good choice along with the paint reconditioning cream for defect removal.
All these have silk screen bottles with dilution ratios on back for the exact conentrate ur looking for. Plus it looks cleaner and easier to use.

And of course ur meguiars da and pads, supreme shine mf towels, meguiars foam applicator pads for applying product like dressing. Meguiars mf wash mitt, meguiars water magnet for drying, and I think that's it. This will definitely get u on the right track if this is the way u want to go. Plus u won't have to restock up on anything for awhile.

        Re: products & the process

i just read on a thread that if bleche white gets on the paint it will mess it up. my car has a new 10 coat lacquer paint job so now i am afraid of it. brillo might be the safest way to go for me. i went online and ordered meguiar's utlimate results bundle and the DA. i was asking about waxing chrome, not for the wheels but for the bumpers. while snooping around i found info on a restorer's blog that collinite liquid metal wax is best for chrome.

That's a great pkg, the only difference is really the detailer line is more for professionals who need quantity along with cost savings. But alot of MOL members use it as well. The ultimate lineup is more for consumers such as urself.

I never had a problem with the bleche white, but I also say use the degreaser first. Anyways u got a great starting point of products

Yeah, bigger containers for the Pro/Detailer lines usually. Sometimes a few stronger, more specialty products.

wow brett, this is way out of my league. i assume a professional would need all of these things, but me...i don't think i will be attempting to clean an engine any time soon. lol!

                    Re: products & the process

hey randy...thank u for your advise. i have invisible glass, i use it in the house. gee, it didn't even dawn on me to use it on the car. i went ahead and ordered a DA today. it comes with a yellow pad. i noticed that meguiar's has separate kits with different colored pads. the wax kit has a black pad. does that mean i can't wax the car with the yellow one? ...this is really confusing. i don't know how that goofy little face showed up and i can't get it to go away.

Did u order a da or the drill attachment da? A da is $175 where the attachment is $75. There are 3 types of pads. Cut (burgandy), polish (yellow), and finish (black). For a da u will only use the yellow and black pads as the burgundy is not recommended for da use. If u got the drill attachment that uses the 4" pads then its ok to use the burgundy pad.

There is alot to learn as far as when to use what pads with certain products, but we'll keep it simple for now. If u have any swirls then use UC with a yellow, followed by UP with a yellow as well, and ULW with a black pad. However u will need multiple pads as u can't cross contaminate the compound and then use polish, also u will need6 yellow and 3 black pads. Now if u don't need to use ultimate compound(UC) than just get 3 or 4 yellow pads to start with along with the black pads as well.

What happens is the product will start to build up on the pad making it less effeciant as well as start to make the da not spin at full speed as the pad builds up weight.

The detailer line isn't just for professionals but geared towards them. Alot of regular guys use the detailer as it is cost effective and they can stock the product just cuz we tend to clean our cars usually weekly but some daily with just a quick wipe down and ultimate detailer. U've been bitten with the bug and u will become just as OCD as we all are. It doesn't start out that way that's for sure.

I recommend going and reading some old post as u will find a ton of useful info there. It's nice tho to see ur taking a serious interest in this more than a weekend warrior does. And ur car will definitely show it. These guys that are pro detailers do such an amazing job both inside and out. And that's what we strive for ourselves is perfection of every little nook and cranny.

                              Hey Litenup,

Check out this thread that is located in the Detailing 101 forum. This may help you out with your pad confusion.

Jarhead "hit the nail on the head" about becoming OCD when it comes to detailing your cars. You kind of start out slow, pick up a few products and then start to put them to work on your vehicles. As soon as you see the results of your efforts, the obsession grows rapidly. The better you make your cars look, the more you'll want to continue to improve the appearance... and now you're "bitten by the bug"! Just keep hanging out here on the forums and read as much as you can - you'll learn a lot here very fast. I'm new to this obsession too, but searching the forums and reading through the posts has helped me tremendously. I also have the advantage of living only about 15 minutes away from Meguiar's Irvine, CA headquarters, so I was able to attend the Thursday Night Open Garage they host and get some first hand instruction from Michael Stoops.

The bottom line here is to have fun with what you are doing!

yes, i ordered the drill attachment. thank u for the info...i will order yellow & black pads. i have been reading a lot of posts and watching all the videos. what does "cut" mean? also, i have noticed black, or dark colored cars being mentioned regularly. are some of the products in meguires line intended for use on dark cars only? http://www.meguiarsonline.com/forums...-Cycle-Updated!
