  • Difference in 4" pads?

This may be a dumb question but I've looked for quite some time on the forum and I can't find the answer to my question. Have the Soft Buff 4" pads (W8204) been replaced by the DA Power pads (G3508)? I have been using the 8204 and 9204 pads and it just came time to reorder some more. I reordered from ADS and when the pads came in, they were the DA Power Pads 2 packs and not the same Mirror Glaze Soft Buff W8204s like before. The packaging is different and these new pads appears to be slightly smaller than the ones I have on hand. I still have 2 unused 8204's and they're slightly larger than these new DA Power Pads. I'm just curious if I ordered the wrong product or if these are the same and what Meguiars has replaced 8204s with.

I thought they are the same pads.

    Maybe somebody could confirm it.

I thought they were the same too.

Have you used the pads you had on hand before or were they unused? Maybe they are slightly larger than the new ones you received because they've stretched a little from working through a cycle or two of the polishing process? Just thinking out loud...

The W8204 pads I compared them to are brand new still in the pack.

Oh okay. Well I'm keen to hear what may have changed with the pads too...

There is no difference whatsoever in the foam construction between the Wx204 series and the G350x series of pads. We have essentially just repackaged for the DA Power System market, but obviously these pads can be used on any buffer (DA or rotary) with the appropriate backing plate. Any difference in size is minimal and inconsequential. You can use the G350x series with the same confidence, and the same results, you have with the Wx204 series.

Thanks for the quick reply and that's great to hear that they're essentially the same. I think the difference in size that I noticed is simply from the way the newer DA power system pads are packaged. They are preset in the plastic compartments so they come out a little thicker than the 8204s which are packaged in a plastic bag and aren't "squished".
