  • pH Neutral Car Wash

Sorry if this is already posted somewhere. I didn't see it.
What is a good pH neutral car wash. I've used Deep Crystal for many years, in part because my local retailer stocks it.

You can step up to Gold class, D111 shamppo plus, D110 hyperwash, M62 or ultimate wash & wax.

I recall that Gold class is pH 8 or alkaline. I see that M62 is pH balanced. I assume that is 7 or neutral. Are there other products also pH 7 or neutral?

You will be fine with any of these soaps. They will not strip wax if that is your concern.

The gold class wash is gentle and does a great job as well.

pH balanced is such a vague term to me. Balanced doesn't indicate whether it is neutral, basic or acidic. It just means suited to whatever role it is intended, I suppose. As most soaps are, I suspect that all car shampoos are somewhat basic. Seems like you would lose any cleaning ability from the soap if it was neutral. Therefore, any soap intended to be used on a car from a reputable company like Meguiar's should fit you just fine. Its up to your taste and experiences what soap you will like best for washing cars.

Hmmm, ok I am confused. On the M62 description to states, "Ultra high foaming, non-streaking, Ph balanced formula".
Based on the discussion I will be ok to stay with Deep Crystal. I've used it for years and haven't had any problems with it.

I agree with Griffith about pH balanced being such a vague term. Don't over think it. As stated all of Meguiar's soaps are great. They will not strip wax. There is nothing wrong with Deep Crystal. It's a good entry level soap. The others are a step above.

Before my new car I had a Malibu in dark blue for 6 years. I used to use Deep Crystal all the time. One day I decided to try Gold Class wash. I'm certain that the Gold Class wash kept my clean car a deeper blue than the Deep Crystal in between wax applications. Since that switch, its all I use.

As Guz stated, don't over think about it. When a product (especially car shampoos) has a dilution ration and when the product is diluted like 'they' say...one can bet on the final 'pH' will be in the neutral range.

The main thing is to use the product like the manufacture says.

                      Re: pH Neutral Car Wash

Folks have made some excellent recommendations.

Just read some cosmetic ads in a "women's" magazines (well men's too), their reference to Ph balance more than likely means balanced with your skin. So extrapolating to automotive soaps, the products are formulated to work with the paint, windows, trim, tires and chrome of your car. It's not that the soap is Ph neutral. Neutral cleaners probably are not good cleaners.

As Bill has said, following manufacturers' instructions is the key to not only safety, but economy of product and best cleaning results.
