  • From your experience with Mercedes paint

I know this is a question that many ask but I'm just curious what you guys have experienced. On Monday, I will most likely be buying my wife a Mercedes C250 and want to know what the paint is like to work with. From your experience, is the paint normally hard or soft? I know there's no definite answer here, since each car can be different but again just trying to see what you guys have experienced. Thanks

Usually Mercedes paint is very nice to work on. I say usually because there are always exceptions. If there were such thing as a 1-10 hardness scale rating of paints, I would (usually) put Mercedes right in the middle, maybe a shade to the softer side.

You probably don't want to hear this, but here goes: As is typical with most manufacturers, Mercedes paint can be all over the map with regard to hardness/softness. Personally, I've worked on non metallic black Mercedes paint that was extremely soft and super easy to haze (SL 65 AMG) and other MB paint that was quite hard (SLS AMG). We've had a few MBs come through our Saturday Classes and the paint was pretty much middle of the road regarding hardness/softness.

While I can not speak directly to the paint on a 2014 C Class, my gut feeling would be......... it's going to be pretty straightforward and leaning toward the harder side. Paint like this tends to love our microfiber correction system and correct pretty easily while giving a very bright shine (color dependent, of course).

By the way, what color is your wife's preference for this new car?

        Mr. Stoops,
It's always an honor to have your input and I thank you for the information. Now, as for the color..... Drum roll please.....Black! Ahhhhhhhh lol I know black always takes plenty of work but with proper care, I think the car will look amazing.

If you're really lucky the paint will be on the hard side rather than somewhat soft. Soft black paint can be a real pain because the hazing you often get can be very tricky to eliminate. If it's on the hard side, the DA Microfiber System will become your new best friend.

I have a 2006 C Class....I know it's older...but the DA Microfiber System does an excellent job on polishing the paint.
