Pinnacle Black Diamond Paint Coating

Anyone use this, or have any exposure to it? For bonus points, does Meguiar's plan to introduce a similar ceramic/silica-based paint coating?

As far as a Meguiar's coating, it sounds like it is being worked on according to Jason Rose and the various podcasts he has done.

There are literally of dozens such coatings on the market these days, many of which will indeed offer protection for as long as a couple of years or more, depending on exposure and maintenance. Some are very finicky to apply while others are much more straightforward. Some offer pretty high gloss, while others, well, not so much. Professional detailers are charging as much as $1000 just to install some coatings, and that is above and beyond the price of the paint correction itself. But if the car owner then treats the coating poorly (ie, runs the vehicle through a poorly maintained automatic wash) the coating will still scratch. Many of them are scratch resistant, but none are scratch proof - there's a big difference in those two concepts.

Obviously we aren't going to make any recommendations regarding product selection here; you'll have to look elsewhere for comparison tests. As for any coating we may have in development, the only coating we currently offer is our Deep Crystal Coating in Asia but it is not a ceramic/silica coating like the ones DAC17 is asking about. And as far as coatings in Asia are concerned there are close to 100 such products available in that part of the world, their popularity based on the horrible air quality found in many parts of the region.

Michael: Thanks. I do think it would be good for Meguiar's to offer a coating that would provide multi-year protection and great shine. I know, easier said than done! 8< ))

Its killing me that Meguiars has not introduced a coating to the market place. As you said there are dozens of coatings currently on the market. Choosing one is a big dilemma for me. The choice would be a no brainer if Meguiars had one.

When the time is right. I rather have Meguiar's take the time and do their do deligence to get the coating just right.
