  • Harbor freight 3" pads - which pad for UC?

Hi, I have these 3" pads from Harbor Freight. I just ordered a 3" backing plate so I can use these on my DA polisher. But I have no idea how aggressive the pads are. The description is:

3 in. sanding pad, 3 in. yellow foam pad, 3 in. white closed cell pad, and 3 in. wool bonnet

The "sanding pad" is the backing plate that doesn't fit my DA, which is why I just ordered one. So there is a yellow "foam pad" and a white "closed cell pad". Any advice, besides spending $25 on a couple more pads? I want to use UC and Ultimate Polish on a motorcycle that's been neglected.

Harbor Freight buys their top quality tools from the same factories that supply our competitors. We cut out the middleman and pass the savings to you!

I see Amazon has 3 packs of Griot's Garage 3" pads for around $12 shipped, which is very reasonable, but they don't have an assortment. So I'd have to order two or three 3-packs, which is more than I want to spend and way more pads than I need.

    Thanks.

The pads from HF are sort of an unknown quantity so you're going to be better off selecting pads that have a solid track record, especially when used with a DA buffer and known products. With that in mind, we highly recommend our own 4" pads (designed to work with 3" backing plates on DA buffers as well as our DA Power System). These are made of the exact same foam found in our Soft Buff 2.0 pads and work great with UC and UP.

Amazon carries both, the G3509 Finishing Pads and G3508 Polishing Pads

I have not used the HF pads but my understanding is that they follow the color scheme of Lake Country in terms of aggressiveness.
Orange would be the medium cut and white would be the light cut.
From what I have read so far, HF pads are pretty much use once and throw out type.
Should spend a bit more and buy quality pads.
