  • Which method do you prefer?

Hey guys! I'm trying to get a feel for what methods you all use when applying sealants/waxes BY HAND. I just watched Mike Phillips' video on autogeek about the straight line method when applying sealants/waxes. Can the straight line method be used for products such as Meguiars - UW, NXT 2.0, #7, #26? I know a lot of people use the circular motion technique instead but I want to get some opinions. Sound off everyone :-)

I usually do straight lines. Following the path of air flow in aerodynamics.

If your products and applicators dont cause swirls, then it doesnt matter, and you just fit your hand motion to the panel/shape.

If your products or applicators cause swirls and scratches, I guess it is nice if they all line up.....

I use ULW 99.9% of the time. If by hand, mainly circles, some straight line. Mostly my machine, 4" pad on a Porter-Cable at speed 3, moving quickly. "Thin to Win" with ULW.

Of your list, don't use #7 or NXT.

Unless an aerosol or spray, most Meguiar's products get applied or worked the same way by me....some sort of circular motion.

Thank you for your reply. May I ask more about your thoughts on why you mentioned not to use #7 or NXT? Just curious, that's all.

Not sure why he said not to use M7 or NXT but they are nice products. My brothers 03 Grand Prix has the combo that you listed in your first post.

Here's the actual thread for it.

Re: Which method do you prefer?

Thanks. I saw his car the other day and it still looks great. He's been using ultimate quik wax to maintain it.

Now that the point of using a DA to apply came up. Lately I have been using a DA with a 4" pad to apply wax to the larger panels. Smaller areas I do in straight lines.

I'm looking forward to seeing your vette. Your color should look amazing. My uncles has a black 02 and he asked me to polish it up. Never worked on a vette before so I'm pretty excited to work on his as soon as he schedules a date.

                            Sentence is missing one word.....I

                            I don't use #7 or NXT.

I was not recommending NOT to use 7 or NXT. By all means use what you like and use it often.
