  • Just some rambling thoughts on #21, NXT, #80, #81....

I detailed my truck Tuesday, yes I did it again. I has been a month. This will be the last detail till the end of the summer as the job is calling my name again.

Anyway... here is what I did:

    1. #80 Speed Glaze
    2. #81 Hand Polish
    3. NXT Tech Wax (2 coats)

Just a month ago I applied #80/#21 while it was still fresh in my mind I wanted to do the NXT combo. As I thought after my application of #21 NXT gives me just a little more depth. I still give the slight edge to NXT, #21 is a great product and if NXT wasn't around #21 would be the one to go to. Both apply and remove just as easy and both are worth the asking price.

My thoughts on #80... I have used it 3 times now and with each application I fine tune it. On my detail this week I was able to get nearly perfect results and couldn't be happier, best it has ever looked! I worked it in longer and got the feel of what it should look like after I am done working it in, the pics on MOL really helped. There were some annoying very fine scratches the dealer installed that no longer show up!

My thoughts on #81... I have used it many times now and couldn't be happier. When I went to apply it during my #21 detail a month ago I had a little trouble with it and it seemed to remove some of the depth, might have been the outside temp, not sure but its a little warmer now. I also remembered a nice thin coat works best and once the pad is primed you are ready to fly and will not have any trouble.

I think it was 2000... but he said he really liked the #80/#81 on black I am in that boat too!

This is the best combo I have found on my truck, I will keep playing around if I find something even better great if not this is perfect for me.

I know, I will do it myself:

You know what my truck looks like...

    Thanks for listening.

    Hey,

You are still not off the hook!!! As in....

Anyway, I am sure your truck looks awesome as usual!

For new members to MOL or detailing at this level:

It is fun to test new products and make comparisons! For newer members of MOL, here is a couple of suggestions when testing new products.

I have found when testing and/or reviewing new products that it is difficult to remember exactly how each product looks. After applying a product a couple of things happen:

    1. The finish starts at 100% and slowly starts to decline as the product wears away through day to day wear and tear.

    2. One gets used to a certain look, so change or a different look really stands out.

So in other words, while a finish may start at 100% after the LSP, in a few weeks, it may be down to 90%. Then if you top it again with a new product, the new product will almost always look better as it has brought the finish back to the 100% point. Therefore, I would suggest that if a comparion is made, prep a single panel (like the hood etc) exactly the same. Divide one side and place one product on one side, another on the other side; then evaluate.

    Cheers!

first off, I don't get tried of looking at awsomely detailed vehicles. Especially black trucks!

I too keep going back and forth on the #21 and nxt. I washed my truck the other day fully perpared to cave and redo it with nxt, than I stood back and looked and desided to wait alittle longer as the #21 was giving my truck an awsome look on that day. great problem to have when you have two great products that are so good its so hard to make up your mind (or my mind anyway).
I'm going to follow Tims advice when I do decide to redo it and spilt the hood and do each door in one another to see how much of a difference I see and to help put my mind at rest as to which one I really want on my truck.
2hotford, once again some great advice! If I see enough difference that I can get it in a pic, I'll post it . BTW, I like pics of big blue trucks too!

You know if it wasn't for this board I more than likely would have never used many of the products that I have, both at work and at home.

I have tired many combos, you just keep tweaking and you will find something you will like. There is a little trial and error but I have had very good luck especially with all the help here.

Looks like we are finding out about the great looks that come with #80, #81, & NXT combo.

It looks great on red too.

Too bad the camera malfunctioned......I lost most of the film.

Note to self: Buy a DC.

hey rusty, good to hear from you again.
I always find it old that black and red seem to like the same products and react similar even thought they are to very different colors.

Thanks for the input gb387. Your truck always looks awsome. I too own a black F150. When I bought it a friend that works at the dealership had a detailer give it the works. I was not able to find out exactly what the guy used but he told me to buy some #80 and #20 for maintenence. I feel like #80 and #20 was a part of his process. This past weekend I washed the truck and gave the hood a pass with NXT and loved it. Anyway it is getting about time to give it another full detail. I think I am going with your suggestion and do #80, #81, and NXT. Can someone give me a link to the post that gb387 referred to about the pictures on how to work the #80. Or did I misunderstand what he was saying.

                Thanks
