http://Any ideas on what is going on here? This is a rubber piece on the door of a 2008 vette. Any suggestions on what I can use on it? Is there any hope or is it too far gone?
UC on rubber works well at times if the surface is dried out.
Is that a typo Matt? I've never heard of that before!
I would try first cleaning thoroughly with APC, then some Ultimate Protectant (Ultimate Black).
It definitely needs some nourishment of some sort, but I wouldn't think it's too far gone..,.

I own a silver vehicle and a black vehicle owns me. The black one demands attention, washing, detailing, waxing and an occasional dinner out at a nice restaurant. The silver one demands nothing and it looks just fine. I think the black vehicle is taking advantage of me, and the silver car is more my style. We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.
Looks like it has some sort of coating that has worn off. Perhaps some M39 or some D101 will clean it up. Then you can follow up with something like ultimate black. It may need a couple applications to bring it back to life.
I have never tried UC on trim like this but if Murr says it work then give it a shot.
I agree with Murr. I've used UC on rubber trim and it works well, then I followed up with UBlack as Guz said. My trim wasn't as worn but you should be ok

I use silicone grease on my door seals. If the piece of trim is rubbery, some silicon grease might help condition it. If it's rather a hard plastic, definitely Ultimate protectant would be worth a try. I'm currently applying it to the rubber trim around my wipers. I apply it every time I wash and my trim keeps getting blacker and blacker. It does say on the bottle that it can take multiple applications to get the desired results.
There are other products available like black wow, but they tend to be very expensive, even for very small 4oz bottles. Good luck.
Hey guys here's a better picture of what seems to be going on with the rubber trim. I want to thank all of you for your input and suggestions. I've placed an order for M39 and also for APC (can't find locally in San Antonio) and will properly clean the area first. I have UC and UBlack at home already and so I just need to give it a shot. Hopefully I can bring some life back to it. If anyone has anymore suggestions now that there's a better picture, I gladly welcome them. Thanks again.

Hmm.. looks like a coating has worn off... not sure UC would help that one. But if you were to try, try to pick an out of the way corner and a little spot first.
