So I noticed after fully waxing my Z with Meguiar's paste and then running the application pad through hot water to clean it off I could smell a slight gas scent. I instantly began to worry that I may have swiped over gas residue when I had a gas spill on my bumper and cleaned and waxed right after. I waxed my entire car since that happen so I'm worried I did more harm to it than protection if there is some gas trapped inside the pad while I waxed it. Anyone else notice there wax has kinda a harsh gas type smell to it when running a used application pad through water? I'm just hoping it' s a normal smell and I didn't get gas in the pad.

Re: Meguiar's Ultimate Paste have gas scent?
Well there are petroleum distillates in it, maybe that's what I'm getting a hint of while washing the applicator pad with warm water? I just hope it's not actually gasoline I'm smelling because I waxed my whole car with that pad. Would it cause some damage to the paint if the pad does have scent from gas inside it?

I don't believe the gas smell is from petroleum distillates. I have used Ultimate Paste Wax many times with no issues in cleaning the pad with any kind of gas smell, or otherwise. Just a very nice coconut type smell from it.

Either way, you wouldn't have permanently hurt anything even if it was gas..Originally posted by BluelineI own a silver vehicle and a black vehicle owns me. The black one demands attention, washing, detailing, waxing and an occasional dinner out at a nice restaurant. The silver one demands nothing and it looks just fine. I think the black vehicle is taking advantage of me, and the silver car is more my style. We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

So I know gas evaporates fast. My question is if say you spill some gas on your fender, the next day will it have evaporated without any scent remaining? Reason I'm asking is because after I spilled it on my fender, I whipped it with water and soap, and then the next day applied the wax. Even if I did miss a spot where some gas residue was left over, would it even be possible to have whipped over it with my applicator pad the next day or would it have completely evaporated by then?

If you're smelling gasoline, it's coming from gasoline and nothing in the wax. But it's nothing to be concerned about, really. It doesn't take much gasoline to have that noxious odor permeate everything, so even if you just picked up a bit from the edge of the fuel filler door while applying the wax, it's going to be noticeable (and offensive) to your nose. But it's not going to hurt anything.
Any of the "solvents" in Ultimate Wax are definitely not going to smell anything like gas, either. Heck, even a solvent based compound like M101 or M100 doesn't smell like gas, even though it has a noticeable "chemical" smell to it. There are a couple of competing compounds on the market that, strangely enough, smell like latex house paint (talk about disconcerting the first time you open a bottle!!!) but definitely not like gasoline.
Again, you've got nothing at all to worry about. Promise.Michael Stoops

Re: Meguiar's Ultimate Paste have gas scent?
Good to know! So you think the wax that was just applied with that pad is still in good condition, even if what I'm smelling in the pad is in fact gasoline? Would you recommend tossing out both the wax and pad since I was dipping the pad in the wax or is it safe to say the wax is not contaminated?

I would just wash the applicator pad, and keep the wax.Originally posted by BluelineI own a silver vehicle and a black vehicle owns me.
