Clear coated or not? Polished alloy or aluminum? They are factory five spoke that look shiny like chrome but I know they're not. It's a 2008. Online gives conflicting answers. Corvette enthusiasts are probably disappointed by me having to ask but I want to make sure I clean them correctly. I've just been using Hot Rims All Wheel Cleaner and MF towel. I recently bought Meguiar's G15308 All Metal Polish but now notice that it says for uncoated metals. I have not used it yet. Can I clay, compound, polish, and wax with the Ultimate line? Please help. Thanks

The answer to your question is yes. Factory wheels are typically clear coated. My uncle put the same wheels on his C5.

By the way nice looking vette.

The Guz thank you for your help. Btw that is someone else's photo and so I must give them credit. However, mine is the exact same model/color. I am not yet able to post my own pics. Thank you for posting the pic in your reply.

I was doing some reading on the forum and notice that the Hot Rims products will typically strip the wax. Just something to keep in mind for those reading this thread. I also noticed that due to conditions from the road and heat, the wax won't last long like it would on paint. I'm considering either the NXT 2.0 Wax I already have or the Ultimate Wax due to its longevity once applied. Both are synthetic if I understand correctly.

Once you clean your wheels with a wheel cleaner and seal them, then you can just use soap and water to maintain. I usually use D156 (ultimate quik wax) every other wash. Also if you want something more durable than a wax, consider hot rims brake dust barrier.

          Re: Corvette Rims

If these are not the Corvette chrome wheels, then they are polished aluminum with a clear coat. GM has a huge variety of wheels with this finish and it can be a bit sensitive. You should be perfectly safe with our Hot Rims All Wheel and Tire Cleaner, but it is important to use it correctly. Never use on a hot wheel, and always work on one wheel at a time from start to finish. Never spray on all four wheels and then start working on the first wheel - that is almost always a recipe for disaster. The brake calipers shown on the car pictured are fairly basic and won't have issues with this product, but if you've got powdercoated calipers or an aftermarket big brake kit, you might want to move to Hot Rims Aluminum Wheel Cleaner to avoid staining of those brake components.

Michael I just assumed that these aren't chrome. When I wax with either NXT or Ultimate Wax, do I apply on all 4 and let it sit for a little just like on paint?

Treat them like paint and you will be good.

When applying a wax or sealant, yes. When applying a wheel cleaner like Hot Rims All Wheel & Tire Cleaner, definitely not!!
