Anyone know of any cheap house hold products i could use as a quick detailer? Would baby shampoo/water work?I would be using it for clay bar/little stuff and following up with wax.

Re: Alternative to quick detailer
As far as claying goes, I have used some car soap mixed with distilled water for a much cheaper lubricant, but typically only on cars I'm correcting. With claying there are many concentrated lubricants available that all work exceptionally for a pretty cheap price.
Clay would be the only use for soapy water in my opinion, as I trust a dedicated product to remove dust and other small particles safely more than a home brew remedy. Quick Detailers do have their purpose and so do waterless washes (which are, as I see them, nothing more than quick detailers on steroids).

Re: Alternative to quick detailer
Actually the biggest reason i ask is because i use so much of it. I use half a clay bar for an entire small car, and i just about use the entire bottle of detail spray for the one car that comes with the kit...so i just cant see carrying around several bottles of detailer when i go to someones house to detail there car. Would be nice to have a large bottle i can just keep refilling when it gets low.
The reason i thought of baby shampee is i figure if its safe to get in your eyes, it should be safe on paint, and it has oils which would act as lubricant. Seems perfect, havnt tried it though.

Re: Alternative to quick detailer
Autozone sells 1 quart bottles of QD--same formulation as in the Clay Detailer kit.
I realize that only gives you enough for 2 cars, but it is cheaper than two small bottles.
Warning--I had an incredibly difficult time attempting to unscrew the cap from the small bottle--ended up just tossing it and putting the big one in the car.
Will need to get another clay kit next paycheck--getting close to busting out the new DA orbiter!!!!
As an aside and back on topic: I would bite the bullet and pay for QD instead of attempt to concoct a home brew. QD gives proven, predictable results.

Do you know about Last Touch? You can buy it by the gallon, and it works out very cheap. It's a great QD too and you can dilute it with water.
I'm concerned about the amount of product you're using for one car though. Especially the QD - a whole bottle for one car just doesn't seem right...Originally posted by BluelineI own a silver vehicle and a black vehicle owns me. The black one demands attention, washing, detailing, waxing and an occasional dinner out at a nice restaurant. The silver one demands nothing and it looks just fine. I think the black vehicle is taking advantage of me, and the silver car is more my style. We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

Re: Alternative to quick detailer
2oz of Optimum no rinse with one gallon of water makes a cheap clay lube. 6oz of optimum no rinse in a gallon of water makes quick detailer. Haven't used last touch but have only heard good things I do find it expensive however.
