  • I'm new to this and need URGENT advice.....

Hi All, my name is Becky and my partner and I love our cars. He has a 1973 VJ Charger and we are having an issue that even the professionals can't provide us with a reason nor a solution.

The best way I can describe it is, the car was drivable but still needed a little tweaking. We got new leaf springs and the took the car for an alignment. After the alignment, the car was driven, and not far, only a few kilometers. When we stopped, we noticed that the front end, both left and right sides had evenly raised about 30mm.

We got another alignment, drove the charger and stopped, only to find that this time it had dropped evenly at the front by about 20mm. We have put new ball joints, rubbers and bushes to try and fix this. We then went and had the car aligned 10 times in a row. It was aligned perfectly each time but after each drive something different happened. Either the front end goes up, or down, the wheels point in, then out.

What I'm getting at is, can leaf springs alter the height at the front? If yes, how do I fix it? If no, then what the he'll is happening?

    Please help if you can!!!!!

P.S. I apologise if I'm in the wrong place but I'm desperate for answers

    Hi Becky,

    Welcome to MOL!

We're going to have to wait for someone else to respond here - MOL is a detailing forum and not a mechanical issues forum so we might not be the best place for you to get an answer. Still, our community is loaded with car enthusiasts, many of whom have done all manner of mechanical work (from suspension and steering work to engine rebuilds to full restorations) so you may get lucky. Maybe.

If the rear springs were completely shot before, and the leaf packs were sagging a bit then yes. It can lift the whole car. There are specific shops that do springs leaf and normal springs that may be able to give you more answers. But to be that noticeable is a bit odd. m the front end suspension old and worn out or new as well?

Try a dedicated LX Forum rather than a wax forum. LX being the platform for the Charger and other Dodge and Chrysler products. Lots of good knowledgeable people who should be able to get to the root of your problem. Here are two:
A forum community dedicated to all LX owners and enthusiasts including Dodge Charger, Challenger, Magnum, Hellcat, SRT8, and Chrysler 300. Come join the discussion about performance, modifications, classifieds, troubleshooting, maintenance, and more!

ChargerForums to connect with the Dodge Charger community to discuss SRT, Hellcat models, maintenance, mods and more.
