  • Extra dry paint?

Just a quick question. I have a car that has extremely dry paint, I started with the mf compound, and the paint just like absorbed the wetness of the compound. I sprayed the pad with some final touch , helped a little, then I grabbed a foam pad after I corrected a small spot, and some polish and it just sucked up the polish.

My question is, what can I do to to make this a bit easier on myself? It's a 1993 Honda and doubt anything has ever been dine before.

    Thanks

    Re: Extra dry paint?

Pictures could help.... but sometimes using something like #7, or DC Polish first will help... applying, letting sit a bit, then removing the bulk of it before doing the cleaning step.

Sounds like single stage paint. You need to use #7. Do a search on Autogeek.net forums for restoring single stage paint. Mike Phillips has an awesome article on this.
I have a 1992 Toyota pickup. The tips he has made it look like new. I have also used these tips on a 72 Amc hornet.

        Here's the article:http://www.meguiarsonline.com/forums...&highlight=M07

The essence of it is using M07, applied vigorously and allowed to soak overnight. Then apply it at least one more time before polishing. It actually "moisturizes" the paint, making it much more workable by the compounds or polishes that follow. I've done the process many times, mostly to the El Camino in my avatar and can attest to its effectiveness. Prior to applying the M07, my old paint would just absorb the liquids in any product I applied, leaving a gummy mess on my pads, dust everywhere, and no improvement. After a couple long soaks with M07, any products used afterwards work like they're supposed to.

Murr, I have tried taking some pictures, it's been hard to achieve anything worth posting as the car is white, and I know it is paint plus clear, so just maybe try doing some polish first to get some oils back into it first might work a bit easier from what it's sounding like?
