  • Cleaning my supplies

I had been working with these pads and cloths for half of the summer last year and stuff came out great.

My regular routine for the first wash of the spring is wash, dry, clay, wax, and then for the rest of the summer I just wash, dry, wax, and maintain with UQD.

Half way through the summer, though, I put my cloths and pads through the wash, by themselves, with regular Tide detergent, and then through the dryer alone.

After I did that, my washes and waxes, and the quik detailer started coming out really streaky and spotty. There would be dark and light spots and streaks like I completely missed spots. It wasn't like that before.

I always hand washed my cloths with dawn dish soap before, but I'd like to machine wash... It came out cleaner with less water waste and less time.

So, what should I wash my cloths and pads with? Can someone recommend something specific that's good for use in a washing machine that won't screw up how my wax and detailer comes out?

I use simple green to get the bad stains / dirt and build up of, then into the washer on warm with Kirkland ( Costco) "free and clear" laundry soap. No softener ,no perfumes and dry on low heat. Never had an issue. Good luck!

      Re: Cleaning my supplies

for my pads a will soak them in hot water and dawn power clean for a bit then give a good rinse. If I need more cleaning than I spray APC on them to clean them that way then rinse. I do similar to firehouse mike and use a free and clear laundry soap for your microfiber towels

I usually soak my pads and towels in dish soap to break down the petroleum in them and rinse them in warm water. Then I will wash them in the machine. I've used Micro Restore detergent in the past and liked it, but it's $35 for a gallon of the stuff and I have to order it. I purchased a perfume and dye free detergent from the store to try out and see how well that works and absolutely NO fabric softener.
