  • Car looks better when not waxed?

I was wondering how to make my car look like it does when it isn't waxed, but still protect it. After claying my car, the metallic flake in it really pops. Where the sun hits the car, the paint is very bright, and where the sun isn't hitting, the car is very dark. I really like that contrast.

After applying gold class paste wax, that contrast goes away, and the entire car looks bright and glossy.

I drive a 1970 Eldorado that was resprayed GM Impulse Blue Metallic.

Are you dealing with single stage paint or clear coat?

Huge distinction - would help the discussion.

If clear coat, what color car are you talking about? Lighter colors might show better with a synthetic seal like an NXT wax over the gold class.

In general most nubas will cause the metallics in paint to be less reflective. Sealants leave a glossier finish giving the illusion that the metallics are "popping". Some waxes and work well on metallic paints as well. Try Megs UPW or ULW as they are both sealants.

Meant to say some waxes contain polymers and work well on metallics too.
