  • Removing freshly applied techwax

    Hi guys,

Have been a long time prowler on the forums but after spending a day and a bit detailing my car by hand and seeing in the sun for a day or 2, i want to apply a coat of show car glaze number 7 with a microfiber towel. I wax the car with nxt techwax 2.0, so will i need to remove this first or can i get straight to it with the #7?

The reason i wan to use it is there are some very light swirls when you look at it in the sun. Im certain this is to do with my application as i had troubles with the 2 polishes drying too fast due to i being so hot and humid here at the moment. When ive used it before i remember it making the colours much richer (car is a dark green metallic mica), not drying even when left overnight, and leaving an amazing finish. Would this be the right choice?

    Thanks

Well, do you want to remove those light swirls, or just temporarily hide them?

M7 will give you a beautiful, rich shine (especially on darker colours) and hides / fills light swirls. However the swirls will become visible again once the M7 wears off, which might be after a few washes or rain storms.

    *EDIT* ...and welcome to MOL!

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

If you put M7 over NXT it will be removed after a few washes. If you want to strip NXT off and restart then use a polish such as M205 or ultimate polish to remove the NXT. Then you can follow up with M7 and seal it in with NXT.

Thanks mate - i wanted to totally remove them and was hoping to use the M7 under NXT.

EDIT - Just saw the above reply and that answers my question.

Next question then would be what is the best way to remove the polish in hot humid weather, as even small pieces are drying before i rub them off, making it a royal PITA to remove and no doubt contributing to the light swirls i still have. Can i spray quick detailer or something on it?

Final question is what would the best wax to use on top of M7 on a dark green metallic car? I'll post some pics up of it once i get them hosted

Wake up at 5:30 in the morning and work before the sun is high. If you can't get to a shaded area, early morning and late evening is your best time.
Doing the best I can with what I've got.

If #7 dries and is hard to remove in spots, wet a foam applicator with more #7 and go over the area. It will re-liquify and make removal easier.

There really is not best wax. But if you are looking for something long lasting then a synthetic like the NXT you have would be good. Ultimate wax is a synthetic as well and is the longest lasting wax currently offered by meguiar's. If you want to use a carnauba my personal favorite is M26. Or take the best of both worls and top off NXT with M26.

                Re: Removing freshly applied techwax

Thanks for all the help, im re-doing the car today... this week is much cooler so hopefully ī wont have as much trouble removing the product. Up until this week there was no chance of having a cool car. Usually i hose the car down and bring it in the shed to cool down for a few hours, even then small patches dry with some polishes very quick so will def be using a wet pad to remove it - thanks!

I understand that, just have read different waxes work better with different colours, with some paste waxes ive seen "for red cars" or something like that. I see M26 is a yellow wax, does that have any bearing on how the it applies to the car?

Unfortunately where i live (in Brisbane) finding most of the meguiars professional products seems a little difficult at best. If there are any aussies that knowm here to pick them up from a retail tore, i wo
