  • Paste wax and dual action polisher

I was wondering if I'm using a dual action polisher what is better to use the paste or liquid wax? I've always thought the paste lasts longer then liquid. What is the best way to evenly put the paste on the DAP pads? I have a can of NXT that I've only on penned a couple times and I would like to use the paste first. By the way I really like the NXT wax.

If you have a 3 inch pad you can use your DA. The pad fits perfectly in the can and you can get better even coverage with a DA. Just lightly rub the pad on the wax and your good to go, add more when needed. I like to use paste as well and have only used liquid with a DA only a couple of times for larger vehicles like suburbans and trucks.

I prefer pastes myself, so I have a 3" backing plate and a few Meg's 4" black pads, which fit inside most paste tins. Keep an old credit card in your pocket as a spreader if you're not getting an even coat on your pad. A Collinite 915 tin is too small for the 4" pad and I prefer the 4" to the 3", so I took an old twist up deodorant dispenser, scrubbed it out and packed in the 915.

back in the days before liquid wax we would just use our fingers to apply paste wax to a pad.

This is the reason liquid wax was developed.
There is no difference from a paste and liquid except on is a solid and one is a liquid, like water

A detailing paint brush, or a regular paint brush with the bristles cut short, makes a great tool for spreading paste wax from a can onto your full sized polishing pad. By shortening the bristles you effectively stiffen them up, making it really easy to brush up a bit of wax from the tin and paint it onto the pad. We did this when applying Gold Class Carnauba Plus to that gorgeous old Bugatti we detailed for SEMA last fall and it works like a champ.

These are available from a variety of online detailing supply shops but they're also pretty easy to make yourself. Just pick up a regular paint brush, 1-1/2 to 2" wide, wrap some 1" masking tape around the base of the bristles and just cut the rest off with a good pair of scissors. Trim until even and then remove the masking tape - voila!

Thanks for all the info. I like the paintbrush idea.
