  • Vw passat, 2008

Hi all, hope someone can advise me further.
I have a 2008 artic blue passat. I bought the paint restoration kit and followed the instructions carefully as follows:
    Washed the car
    Hand dryed using chamois leather
    Clayed to clear impurities.
Used compound on entire car and removed
I then used the carnauba wax and removed finishing off with a buff of entire car.

The car has finished with a great deep shine but i feel that there is potential for a more of a 'sparkly' shine. What should i use to bring up the shine a little better and also was i wrong to use the ultimate compound as the car is relatively new.
    Thank you all in advance.

First, welcome to MOL! There is nothing wrong at all with using Ultimate Compound on a new car. Dd you let the UC dry like a wax then remove? If so, for future reference, you work it then wipe off while its still wet. It's like that for all compounds and polishes. The only thing you let dry to a haze is wax. You would want to use Ultimate Polish after Ultimate Compound to really add some gloss and depth and make it pop. It's not near as aggressive as UC and is rich in polishing oils so there is very little clear coat removal so no worries there. You could go ahead and wash with something like Dawn soap and clay it again to strip the wax if you want to Polish it right away or you you could let the wax wear off by itself and wash with a traditional car soap and clay it and Polish.

Thanks very much for your helpful reply. I didnt letbthe UC dry i wiped it while its still wet. Would it have taken a bit of clear coat off??? Should i not use the uc in future?
Can i use the polish over the wax or does the wax need to be stripped first. How long will it take for wax to wear off? Excuse my ignorance. Im relatively new to this...

No worries! You're not ignorant, just need more practice! Basically scratches and swirls are low spots in your clear, for lack of a better term. So when you compound you are removing, or leveling out your clear to the level of the swirl marks so you have a flat surface. You really only need to compound maybe a couple of times for the life of your car. Once you have your paint leveled, it is just a matter of maintenance. Routine washing using the 2 bucket method with grit guards will help dramatically prevent unwanted swirls and scratches. As far as using UP over our wax, UP has very mild abrasives in it so it will most likely remove your wax anyway. I mentioned Dawn soap and clay, if you choose, as a way to help remove more of the existing wax before using UP. How fast the wax wears off will depend on a lot of things. Parked in a garage, how hot it is outside, how often you wash, will all play a role in how fast your wax wears off. I assume you used Gold Class Carnauba Plus, I think it comes with that kit. It's not Meg's longest lasting wax but it will still probably last 6-8 weeks I think. It's up to you if you can hold out that long or strip the wax and polish her up! Hope I didn't confuse you too much!

Great thanks very much for your informative reply again. Is the ultimate polish the best polish from meg's?

Best is a relative term to be honest with you. It is definitely a user friendly polish and the one I use. I don't have a lot of experience with other polishes however. I am going to pick up a bottle of M205 this spring and see how it goes. There are a ton of guys who swear by it so I want to check it out for myself. Ultimate Polish is derived from 205 with the main difference being 205 has more cut and UP has more polishing oils. I would suggest trying UP first and see how it goes it just might be exactly what you're looking for. And best of all you will be able to find it locally at a wal mart or o'rielly or something like that. It is about 8-10 bucks a bottle

I would recommend both UP and M205. M205 offers a little more correcting ability than UP. UP is a nice follow up to UC. You can't go wrong with either one. If you need something you can pick up locally then UP is the winner. Although M205 is carried at autozone, well at least in my area.

Same here. Auto zone is the only place I can find 205 locally here in central MN. It's pretty reasonably priced too which surprises me...

Wow, I didn't realize you were in Ireland! Cool! I would think UP should be fairly easy to come across and it looks like you have a place in mind. I think you will be more than happy with UP. It is a great product. Looking forward to hearing about your results!
