  • Witness the Power of M205 . . .

2 months ago I flew up to Seattle for the 1st Annual Seattle Shine Bonanza, to go wild on paint and learn about true show car wet sanding and finishing from the extraordinary Phantom Polisher: Jason Killmer .

For those of you who don't know him, he's the last man called in to touch paint before it is judged in some of the most critical and competitive vehicle shows and concours such as Pebble Beach and Ridler. Both of which his work has helped win. Without much fanfare [hence Phantom Polisher] Jason has worked on some of the best hot rods build in the last 10 years, including the 2013 Ridler Award Winner "Checkered Past." Not many people i know can spend 10 hours on a panel and walk away making it look like colored glass..

We spent 4 days in a cold dungeon that is his garage did some extraordinary things that are thought to not be achievable by conventional wisdom on paint - OEM and show car finish alike.
I learned a TON about how to wet-sand and finish show cars. Let me tell you this is a LABOR INTENSIVE endeavor that summons all of your patience and sanity, since some panels can be worked on for upwards of 10hrs!

What I have included here is a video that chronicles the absolute power of 205. That being said, while you CAN do this, I wouldn't recommend this.. its not practical in time or labor intensity, this is simply a demonstration of what is POSSIBLE.

We just did it to push the limit of what is achievable. It started off as a joking comment that took ahold then one after another we took out 200 grit, 1500, then 1000 and 800 grit.

Ive seen plenty written over forums and such about how M205 is obsolete, but i submit this video and say judge for yourself,

Please enjoy and revel what can be achieved with 205.

    That's amazing.

I suppose if you polish anything enough times, it will slowly start to work.

Do you think the slight haze left behind at the end could be corrected using M205 and a MF finishing disc?

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

More likely than anything..... the haze was caused by spent paint residue trapped in the microfiber.. because microfiber is BEST at trapping.... therefore since we used the same pad, start to finish, im quite confident not all of the particulates were expelled.

ALso........Jet Black OEM BMW is particularly sofy and sticky. I recommend using a foam finishing pad...I find it more consistent, manageable and quicker..... but with enough finesse and time its definitely achievable.

I just did it on another BMW this week with finishing MF

There has been a lot of discussion about the hidden power of M205 lately, and as you point out, Christopher, this is less about showing how to do something than it is about what the product can achieve. Certainly there are faster ways to remove sanding marks than with M205, and lets face it, our new DMX Xtra Cut MF Disc coupled with a Rupes 21 is a pretty potent combo in itself. But imagine what you can do with M205 on its own with this pad/tool combo, and do it with a single step prior to waxing. We actually used M205 on a microfiber finishing disc with the Rupes 21 when we prepped the Prince of Persia Bugatti for SEMA

The versatility of M205 is such that you can achieve quite a bit of cut when used in an aggressive manner, yet you can obtain incredible depth, clarity and gloss when using it as a finishing polish.

Precisely. This is primarily an exhibition of possibilities. Not an advocation of this technique over others.. I find that by learning the capabilities of products, COUPLED WITH POPER TECHNIQUES, can offer a myriad of more solutions with the same bag of tricks. That's extiting to me!

That last sentence you uttered, Senior Stoops, is why M205 is one of my top 3 all time detailing products
