How to fix these stained wheels

Hi all,

My father's 2001 Honda Odyssey has stained wheels as seen here:



I believe these are alloy wheels and the stains may be from using Bleeche White or a similar harsh cleaner. I tried to fix this with clay but that didn't do anything. What options do I have for this? All 4 of the wheels look bad.

That looks to me like the clear is chemically etched. You may be able to remove or minimize that with elbow grease and a compound like the Meguiars Ultimate Compound. It may prove to be etched in so deep that they need more than what you can do with a compound or polish.

you sold your old G100 I don't remember why but did you get another one, if so do like Larry mention and try some Ultimate compound(UC). If you don't have another DA use a foam or micro fiber applicator and use some passion with it and use the UC my take more then one application but give it a try and post back your finds and pics would be nice.

Thanks for the quick replies.

I guess I can try some Ultimate Compound on a terry applicator and see what happens if it won't make things any worse. I did sell my G100 a while back since I have a G110v2 now. I think those pads would be too big for this job though and I only have the foam ones.

If my father wants he could always look into having them professionally redone. I just cleaned his tires with APC and a brush and the wheels with some Megs car wash solution prior to taking the photo.

Painted/clear coated wheels seem much better to work with...

I'd try a foam applicator first as terry cloth can be aggressive if worked hard. You could buy a smaller backing plate and use the 4" Meguiars pads on your DA machine. FYI foam pads should be capable of handling the job.

Also, I think you'll find these wheels are in fact clear coated. The staining/etching is in the clear paint, not the wheel itself.

Polish them. It's paint.
Dyna Cone and some compound then wax them.
Or use a yellow pad on a DA. Either way will work way better then by hand

It's paint so treat it like paint.

I had a few small scuffs on my F150 CC wheels after having new tires installed. I used Scratch X and a foam pad by hand, and topped it with a paint sealant. Now, the wheels look practically new.
