I would get some 5.5 inch pads and 5" backing plate. The porter cable works better with a smaller pad. I use lake country flat pads and others like the buff & shine pads.
Dual Action Flexible 5 inch Backing Plate - The Dual Action Flexible 5 inch Backing Plate will last through countless, rigorous uses without falling apart or becoming unbalanced. Balancing is essential when it comes to polishers because an unbalanced...
Larry gave you some great advice boo but the only thing I recommend on is the pads. The porter cable does better and you have better control with the 5.5'' pads and also the counter weights for the 5''adaptor and pads. And found this deal for you with the counter weight already installed and comes with 7 pads & backing plate and right now S/H flat rate for $6.95.

Glad you got you one but with the 1 piece polish pad it comes with your going to have to get a backing plate and new pads anyway unless you already ordered it along with your other products.

Yes, I bought that too
I have few questions though..as I said I've ordered pads, polishes, wax etc, but just wanted to make sure when should I use different pads..correct me if I'm wrong.
Both applying using PC 7424xp
I don't have Meguiars wax, I bought Zymol paste wax when I bought the car and I have the full bottle..I don't think none of you guys use this product for waxing, but should I continue using this till it completes?
I doubt you'll find anything wrong with your Zymol product. There was a day that it was considered one of the better products. I would totally stick with it and use the product, just pay attention to the finish feel and water beading and reapply if your noticing that the product is beginning to fade.
Just a note and reality check for you, you may realize that there are wax products (carnauba wax based), there are hybrids of synthetic blends along with Carnauba, and you have synthetic sealants.
Zymol is a wax. Being as such, it has a 2-4 week expected life on the paint finish.
A product like Meguiars Ultimate liquid is a synthetic sealant and would be expected to last 4 months or more on a paint surface.
Like I said before, use the zymol that you already own, it will produce a very nice deep wet shine. But my best advice to you would be to put down Meguiars ultimate and cure it over night and then top it with the carnauba zymol to give it that extra punch of wetness and depth. Every 3 weeks or so, recoat the car with zymol to keep the extra deep/wet look.

Also another important step after your've wash and dried is to tape all your rubber trim, surfaces plus your emblems with good painters tape (so after you remove it won't leave sticky residue all over surface) I like many would rather spend 20 or so minutes taping off area's we don't wont to spend the rest of the day cleaning and scrubbing the products off of or out of!
Yeah everythings about right, And you can also use the red cut pad and use with the Ultimate Polish for just alittle more aggressivness If you need alitle more cleaning from the UP. Or step up to Ultimate Compound with a polishing pad or the cutting pad. Now remember that along with Pads and products you can effect the aggressivness with the pressure your applying to the pad, arm speed & DA speed. And always do a 18''X18'' test spot and use the least aggressive product and technique that can and will have a effect on your outcome.
If that is what you have (Zymol paste wax) then use it,(But try M26 Hi tech yellow wax, when you can/ one of two of my favorite waxes) just remember to apply in VERY THIN COAT/S ( apply 2 if at all possible for better coverage and it looks better to your eyes) and again if you can wait at least 12 hours inbetween coats to let product crosslink and cure but in the real world we all cant wait so after you wait and the product has dried, go ahead and start picking everything up and put away, go grab you a nice cold drink (ALE81) for me a ky softdrink) and then 30 minutes or so should pass by and then apply your 2nd VERY THIN COAT and let dry, do the swipe test and remove if dried and if you want to add alittle more kick! Get some Ultimate spray wax and mist over your paint and remove and you'll have a great paint and day knowing that you did that!
Get some before and after pics and post up your detail! We will help you learn the do's and don't and teach you how to do a great thread if you don't already know how to.
Hope I've helped

Yea, the concept of thin product application can not be over stressed. I see so many people that make the job incredibly more difficult because they want to see a pasty film of wax as they are applying. I like to tell people that your more looking for a slightly wetted, almost oil-like film that will dry to a light Haze. It uses very little product to do this and it makes removal so much easier. Fight the urge to over apply product!
Hello again
I got my stuff from Amazon today and I'm planning to detail my car in couple of weeks. PC 7424xp is coming from Home depot (Amazon was taking 3 weeks to ship)
Anyways since I'm a newbie and I didn't do much to my car other than wash n wax, I was having lot of questions on how to do this and that. luckily I've registered here and going through most of the posts and finding answers from seniors like you guys.
But, I have some more questions :P
1. Clay - I ordered Meguiars clay kit. not sure how many clay bars will come with it, but should I have to discard the used portion of the clay or can I use it again? typically to clean VW Passat how much I need?
2. If I really get awesome results after claying, polish, wax I will do it at least once in a 3 months. so typically how many times should I do this process? I'm a daily driver and I live in a apt, park outside
3. I was looking for ONLY clay bar, not the kit and I'm not finding it.
4. Since my car is new don't have much scratches, but very little swirls visible only in bright sun light. so I bought Ultimate polish, this should be enough right?
1. I beleive there is 2 clay bars in the kit. I can't remember as I have not used it in a long time. They are white. When they start looking greyish in color it's time to get a new bar. Also be sure you have a spare bar because if you drop it, you are technically supposed to toss it out as they have been conaminated. You don't want the debris to do any damage. I will sometimes save a dropped piece or an old bar for it to be used on the wheels before I toss it for good.
2. Typically 2 times a year is good to polish but you may need more depending on the environment you are in.
3. If you are looking for just a clay bar look into the blue clay magic clay bar. I have seen it at oreilly and pep boys sold individualy for about $10. Works great.
4. If it's not bad UP should be good. If there are some areas that need something more aggressive then you can use UC.
Yea, 2 80gram clay bars come individually wrapped in the kit. I completely used 1 clay bar and that included the wheels, lights, and underneath the bumpers. You can even clay the glass. It's a good idea to set aside about 1/4 of the claybar for those other duties that aren't the direct clean panels of paint and you should be able to keep the innitial large piece you're working with clean enough to use again. [just make sure to wrap it/put it away so it stays clean]
Then use that 1/4 part you set aside and use it for those other areas such as glass, grill, lights, and leave the most dirty parts such as the very bottom of the fenders & door panels for the end.. Then finish it off with the wheels and discard that piece.
