  • At what point am I wasting time stacking products?

I did a wash, clay, compound, Polish and then went to Chemical Guys skin 6 and waited 24 hours and then went with a coating of Ultimate Paint Protection and waited 24 hours and then a coat of Meguiars High Tech wax and waited 24 hours and finished with a wipe down of Meguiars Ultimate Quick Wax.

Now, is my car super-d-dooper coated, sealed and protected or did I waste a bunch of product and time trying to do something that is impossible.

Being it's a spare car and I had no time pressure, my goal was to make it layered up so that as we go through the next few months of winter snow removal Chemical exposure, the car is so well layered with protection that nothing can possibly get in to where the actual paint is.

    Waste of time?

Larry I don't think it was a waste of time as long as it looks good to your eyes! But I don't know anything about the other 2 products you applyied before the meguiars M26! If though either of the 2 other products had any cleaning ability you applied they could remove some of the other product you applied before hand specially if you worked them in well. But Have read that really anything over 3 coats of any LSP could be wasting time because there's no proof that it's any more protection because are the 4th , 5th or how ever many LSP your applying are actually being bonded to crosslink with the application before hand?

Have you tried M21 synthetic sealant 2.0 and applied M26 high tech yellow wax liquid or paste over the M21, After like you've done with the claying, cleaning and polishing steps. It gives a amazing deeper, darker, and more reflective paint, and on lighter colors it produces amazing clarity, shine and most important on lighter colors is GLOSS!!

And learned this from a very smart man that one reason we all love M26 is that it doesn't bounce light back into our eyes, creating haze. It bends it back into the paint and gives us the deep dark reflection or the shine and gloss that were after!

Hope I've helped Larry, and how about some pics brother!

I actually pulled it out this afternoon and drove it in the snow, so it's covered in salt and anti ice chemicals already.

      Nothing applied was a cleaner.

The base was the second skin 6 that Chemical Guys calls a nano coating, but I suspect it is more of a super sealant. It's advertised to be a 12 month or greater product.

The second layer was my go to sealant, the Four Star Ultimate Paint Protection. This stuff is the bomb! It is said to be a 4-6 month sealant.

The third was the high tech yellow wax, my other go to product that I place over the UPP.

Then, just to take it to a level of sickness, I did a heavy spray down with the professional version of the ultimate quick wax.

So nothing was a cleaner type of product. I know that the application of the initial second skin 6 did not provide a super slick feel that I'm used to getting. After the UPP was applied the next day, I had that insane slippery finish that I am used to getting. That feeling stayed to the end after adding the High Tech and the spray sealant.

The car looks (looked) amazing compared to where I started when I bought the car a month ago. Now it's a salt cube :-(

Hey Larry buddy, I see that your avatar is a new gen. Camaro and you have a nice looking pontiac, What I'm curious about is that great looking FORD BANNER you have hanging on your wall. You know that would look awful great on my wall!

Larry have you tried M205 followed by M21 and thin a thin coat of M26, Stunning a amazing combo on any color!

I also have an 03 SVT Cobra and the Ford emblem on my right shoulder. I have the 12 Transformers 3 special edition Camaro 2SS/RS, my son has a 93 Firebird 3.4 and I just got him this 04 Grand Prix GT. I'm a car guy. Ford or Chevy, just never a Chrysler product. I tried that once. Lesson learned.

My commuter car, 12 Cruze 1LT/RS

          And my wife's 13 Malibu 2SA Eco

And here is the typical car cruise lineup

This was my bad Dodge experience. I had a diesel performance store for a few years and thought it would be fun to drag race and sled pull with an 05 Ram 2500 Cummins. 7 transmissions and 3 Cummins engines latest I gladly gave that thing away for next to nothing.

Perhaps to a full time detailer. It is one's personal choice if that person is just an enthusiast and is experimenting.

                  X2

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and since were all car crazy on here and have a PASSION for our cars as GUZ stated it's also well worth the time and enjoyment we get out of takin our paint to the next level of perfection in our eyes.

But I don't understand why your saying that it's a waste of time Detailing by M. for who you, or in general?

Re: At what point am I wasting time stacking products?

I see no point in stacking. Also you'll remove most of the first layer when applying a second, third, forth, fith, sixth coat of wax. This is a scientifically proven fact.
Waxes/sealants contain solvents in them, so when you apply a second coat those solvents eat up the previous coat and therefore you'll end up with less protection then when you started, waisted time, product and money.

If you choose the right LSP you won't need to "enhance" anything.
