  • Water Spot Help!

I just saw tons of waterspots on the hood and I couldn't get rid of them with Vinegar. I plan to attack them with Polising pad and #83+ PC. Will it work?!

PS. I wax my car with NXT several times ( more than 3 times) last months. This means wax doesn't help protecting the car after all? Or the chemical in the water is too strong for the wax?
    Thks guys

It looks like the water spots is embeded in you paint. Using #83 should be agresive enough to remove the water spots. But also the experts recomend using #80 after that since it has the trade secrets oils from Meguiars. Again, use the least agresive product first (#80) to see if that remove the water spots.
Here is an article from Mike Phillips regarding water spots.

    Type 1 & Type 2 Water Spots

As far as NXT wax not protecting agains water spots, I tend to believe that every waxes in the market has some limitations. All of them will protect your car's paint. But if you leave the contaminants (bird dropings, acid rain, hard water, etc) on your paint for a long period of time, it will eventually damage your paint. You know, some people think that once a car gets a wax job, it good to go for the rest of the cars life.

    Cheers!

Well. I attacked with #83, followed by 1ZPP and NXT . It seems to have gone away now.

      Thks for your input.

No it will not work - it won't even work with a cutting pad and #83. To be as visible as they are, waterspots are etched into the clearcloat. Yes, a rotary and #83 will take most of them out, but you'd remove too much clearcoat.

Believe me, I have them on the roof and hood of my Tacoma, and this past weekend I went to town with 3M Fine Cut and it did nothing for them.

Sounds like M83 got the job done!

Wash and wax often, do your best to keep whatever is causing the problem off the car, otherwise it will re-occur. If you're waxing your car three times a month and this is happening, then more than likely nothing short of a car cover or under cover parking is going to protect the finish.

          Best of luck to you...

FWIW, the last auto I detailed had water spot damage on the hood. After prepping the paint with clay, #83, & #80, I applied #81 hand polish before applying NXT.

The spots were very much visible after all of that, but a few days later, the spots were hardly noticeable anymore.

I think they disappeared because of Meguiar's Trade Secret Oils penatrating into the paint over time, and restoring the luster.

That's one thing that sets Meguiar's apart from the crowd, IMO.
