  • Anyone use Chemical Guys Second Skin 6?

My goto sealant has been Four Star Ultimate Paint Protection, but I ran across this product today and thought that it may be a better way to go, especially for cars other than mine being that I'm constantly working on my paint in some way.

My current standard work up on a new to me detail is Clay bar, Ultimate Compound, Ultimate Polish, UPP, 2 applications of High Tech wax followed by a final wipe down with Ultimate Quick wax.

I'm considering replacing the UPP with this Second Skin 6 as my base layer sealant. Is this a known and proven product?

I got it and used it. It goes on and off easily, looks decent. But it's not near the super slick finish of my favorite, Ultimate Paint Protection by Four Star. I left it cure overnight and put the UPP over it for that amazing and unmatched surface slickness. I'm not sold on it. I'll use it, but I think that for $30 the UPP is a better product. The SS6 may last longer than the UPP, but both go on and of as easily as you can ever hope for, so the UPP needing 2-3 applications a year isn't a deal breaker by any means and the surface you get after UPP is so far unmatched by anything I've seen or tried.

I've seen some great reviews on UPP. Have you compared it to Meg's UW?

Honestly, no. I've not used the Meguiars Ultimate line of wax just because I've spoken to so many folks who agree that in sealants, the UPP provides the best "near carnauba" depth while providing many months of sealant performance.

I should just make you a promise that I'll get the Ultimate liquid and try it, I but I do have a brand new bottle of UPP on the shelf. If the Meguiars Ultimate can offer that insanely slick and wet looking finish that UPP can, I'll switch. But from what others have told me, the UPP really is a stand out product that exceeds expectations. I know I love it!

I'm thinking that I may try a test with the Chemical Guys Second Skin 6 this spring. I'm going to tape off a car and do half with UPP and half with SS6.

As UPP is a sealant how does M21 or NXT2.0 compare? I normally use NXT2.0 followed by a carnauba wax.

Well I can't comment on UPP as I've never used it but here's an idea. Why not add UW onto another panel with your test to compare.

I could do that. My wife has a 2013 Malibu that I sealed last November. This spring I'm going to go over it with clay, Ultimate Polish, and then I can tape off the hood into thirds. I want the test to be the same panel exposed to the same light and rain. If I do thirds, I should be able to easily see the beading and be able to compare look/feel side by side. I'll try to do this and tell you what I see.
