  • Clear Coat starting to fail

2000 Toyota has isolated areas dry paint and clear coat beginning to fail, is it possible to treat or seal the isolated areas to prevent further damage? A new paint job is not option for now. I have a dual action polisher if that would be needed. Thanks in advance, SkipG

In my experience there is nothing you can do but repaint.

Kinda expected to hear repaint as the only option, thanks for the reassurance. SkipG

Yeah skip thats about it! I've got BAD clear coat failure on the hood, roof and all the horizontal area's of my XJ jeep. Bought it this way several years back and it's getting worse but bought it for the type of work I used to do.

But try to keep yours from getting as bad a shape as mine's in and do the full detail and wax and/or seal often, remember 2 thin coats for even coverage and it looks better to your, our eye's until a repaint is fundable! Have you got a pic of it?

I just texted a pic of my clear coat failure earlyer to a buddy on here and were still laughing and pokin fun at my hood, it's bad!

My miata is actually beginning to develop clear coat failure on the back right 1/4 panel. It makes me sad, as I keep the thing waxed religiously. Expecting to have to repaint in 5 years, I feel your pain.
