  • Festool 150 Rotex

Hey guys, I've been meaning to pull the trigger on a new rotary and da and a friend of mine tells me this company is the best of the best, it's a 2in 1 from what it looks like DA and rotary, anybody have any thoughts comments on it?

yes I know it pricey lol worth it? My other concern would be the pads can I get Meguiars pads to fit this machine? Thanks guys.

    Hey Skywit

Why would you want to pay that much for a polisher? When you could get amazing results with a g110/7424 or a makita/dewalt? Do you have any experience with a rotory?

If you have that much to spend then you could get a DA G110/7424 and load up on pads and products! Something that the guys on here has already got and turning out some amazing work with.

      Re: Festool 150 Rotex

For that kind of money you could get a Flex or a Rupes and still have money for pads and liquids. I also use the Meg's G110v2 and I think it does a pretty darn good job for about 1/4 of the money. As far as pads go for the Rotex you are looking at, it is just a matter of having the right backing plate for it. You would need a W68DA backing plate then you could use any Meg's Soft Buff 2.0 pads you wanted.

Absolutely not, and I'm fairly sure that BP is proprietary.

The 5mm stroke makes it only as effective as a traditional DA and the maximum rotary RPM is not fast enough to do hardly anything. You would be much happier with a Rupes.

This Festool is best left to wood sanding.

They are a pretty top notch tool maker. But r u a professional or a weekend warrior? I'm all for paying for quality. I like to spend once and have it for 30 years than buy Chinese **** that will last 1 or 2. However unless u do alot of cars day after day than i would do a festool but if u dont then the meguairs or flex are still top notch. Even a dealt is a great tool. But unless ur a true professional ur better off spending ur money else where.

            Re: Festool 150 Rotex

Hey fellas thanks for the replies, yes I have experience with a rotary not great but I've gotten good results and feel comfortable with it, my thing is with this one is it has the 2 in 1 DA and rotary and it is also light and from what my friend tells me its a very top notch brand..I would like to purchase this and use meguiars pads and liquids but I'm not sure if it'll fit it correctly...maybe more info on that?

Right now I'm gonna be the weekend warrior but my goal is to get a nice side gig going I don't mind paying good money for a good quality product, that also doesn't mean I want to throw my money away lol if I'm going to buy once I want it to be the best.

So are we saying I should just buy the g110v2? I'm already using my brothers Makita rotary , hence his lol

please guys give me some feed back

If you have the $$ to spend and depend on a tool to pay your bills, buy a Rupes or two. Or even just a 3401. But please, do not waste detailing dollars on that Festool.
Even a G110v2 with the MF system and M100 would make you much happier for the money spent.

                Re: Festool 150 Rotex

Why not go with the festool? I'm guessing it's expensive because of the nature of having 2 modes The biggest reason is it's 2 in 1 the rupes is just a rotary correct?

                  Re: Festool 150 Rotex

My opinion is that a tool that is designed to do 2 tasks will do them just ok. But a tool whose job is to do only one job will do it better. The Rupes is a DA Polisher like the G110v2, Porter Cable 7424, Flex 3401 and so on. There are 2 models for the Rupes one has more orbit than the other so it will cut quicker. Go to autogeek.net and check them out. They have a ton of supplies as well as polishers to browse. Good Luck!

Listen to the advice. Get a Rupes. You won't regret it. Like they said, you will have money left over for products and pads.

Ok I guess that makes sense but can also not be the truth in certain cases, like this one I don't know because it is a very top notch tool that opinion can be changed but I do 100% understand and agree to a certain degree..I think guys I'm gonna go with the G110v2 I hear a lot of good things about it? Should I get the rupes instead then? I can get a whole package with the G110v2

Where are you getting the package from? I have no experience with a Rupes so I may not have the right take on it so bear that in mind... As far as I can tell the Rupes will cut faster than the G110 will because it has a much bigger orbit so it will remove more faster than pretty much any other polisher will, all things being equal. That said, I have a G110 and I love it. It already comes with the backing plate you will need if you plan on using Meg's Soft Buff 2.0 pads. It may take longer to buff with it vs the Rupes, not sure how much longer however, but if time is no factor then go with the G110. Much less expensive so you can load up on pads and liquids and hit the ground running!

                          Re: Festool 150 Rotex

I have both Rupes 21 & 15, can't imagine polishing any car with out using either one of them. The 21 can be difficult to use on curves, for example a 6" pad on the Griots/G110 rotates with an 8mm orbit. Now take that same pad around a 21mm orbit, now we're talking almost 3X the throw. So in really tight areas/dips, I'll pull out the 15, Griots 6", or Rupes 75 which uses 3" pads.

What will be the main purpose for your polisher? Are you a weekend warrior doing friends/family cars or will you be detailing every day?

These meguiars soft buff pads I'm guessing are bigger then what currently comes with this machine?

Im fairly new to the detailing world but I'm learning a lot, I'm pretty good with a rotary I currently use a makita which I guess is a good brand..Excuse me for not knowing but you kinda lost me with the 21,15 8mm 21mm orbit 6inch 75? Sorry Loki guessing 21 would be the bigger machine and 15 being smaller 21mm and 8mm beats me?

my goal is to be a weekend warrior and eventually as I evolve to become a nice side gig on the weekend.thanks for the replies!

Well when you have time for a good read, take a look at this. http://www.autopia.org/forum/topic/1...ures-benefits/

It will give you a better understanding on what I'm talking about. The Makita was my first rotary, recently retired it and replaced with a Flex PE14.
