  • What Would You Do

Guess I should change my screen name since I sold the Z car and now have a new 2014 Jeep Cherokee (Brilliant Black Crystal Pearl). Picked up the car last Friday and Saturday I had it washed and put on a coat of NXT 2 wax. I wanted to get a quick wax job on it while it was clean but didn't have a tube of the new Black wax. I used the White wax on my silver Z car and it was/is pretty amazing stuff so I'd like to use the black version on my new Jeep. Had the car washed again today as a couple of days ago I was driving in some melting frost mixed with the awful black powdery deicer stuff they spray on the roads here. It's a touchless car wash and they do a pretty decent job of getting the car clean and drying it.

Now, as to using the Black wax. Should I just go ahead and apply a coat on top of the NXT (and probably what was sprayed on at the car wash) or would I get better results with a paint cleaner or something first. I've got a heater going in the garage now to warm things up and not sure I want to tackle clay baring the car today.

    Re: What Would You Do

Congrats on the new Jeep. Keep in mind Meguiar's Black Wax and White Wax are cleaner waxes. They utilize some mild cleaners to help assist in the overall clarity of the paint, and remove light swirls marks/defects. The white wax has more cleaning ability of the two which works to really brighten up a light color, and while the black wax has cleaning ability as well, it is going to be more rich in conditioning features to provide depth for a dark color. Any product with cleaning ability will remove the existing coat of wax on the vehicle.

Onto the question of which is the better route to go, it all depends on the condition of the paint and the level you want to take the paint to.

Meguiar's Black Wax will remove light swirl marks/defects in the paint, enhance the gloss/depth, and provide good protection. You are absolutely welcome to follow up with a coat of the NXT Tech Wax 2.0 for even more protection.

If the car has more than what we would consider light swirls, and you want to address them now, it will likely require the use of a dedicated paint cleaner to fully remove them, like our SwirlX, Scratch X 2.0, or Ultimate Compound.

I hope this information was helpful.

Yeah, although they say White and Black wax... it is really just that white has more cleaners, and black has more polish. Nothing about being the only color you can use it on.

Thanks Nicholas and Murr. The paint is pristine and I haven't found any swirls or other abnormalities. I'll hit it a lick with the Black wax for the patented Meguiar's shine.

Like Nicholas said, if you have anything other than very light swirls / defects and you want to get rid of them now, use UC or a paint cleaner first.

If not, you can go ahead and just apply the Black Wax. It will remove light swirls, and add some shine and protection.

*EDIT* Posted that while you were posting above. Good luck!

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

            Re: What Would You Do

Here's the results after a coat of Black wax. As usual the shine is amazing. It's just now starting to snow so I think I'll start the heater in the garage and add a coat of NXT2 for a little added winter time protection. Quite a bit of plastic covers under the hood that had a sort of grayish look so I used some Ultimate Black Plastic Restorer and now all the pieces have a nice soft black finish.
