  • Need advice on what Meguiar's products to use for a very wet look

Hey guys. I just bought the Meguiar's DA G220v2 since it is safe to use, and just dying to try it out. I LOVE detailing the more the steps the happier i am. I find it truly relaxing (was always a hand buffer before the DA). Anyways i will show you what my plan is, in using Meguiar's products from what i understood from researching, and this is were i would appreciate some advice on wether am following the right path.

Detailing a 2009 GMC Yukon (dark blue) & 2013 Camaro (dark grey) My Goal is a VERY wet look with High protection.

    Steps i plan to use:

    1. Clay bar

    2. Ultimate compound. (will i need to use this on the new Camaro)?

    3. Ultimate Polish OR M7 Mirror Glaze (not sure which. from what i understand M7 is also a polisher)

    4. #21 Synthetic sealant OR M20 mirror glaze polymer sealant (same here not sure which. As a user whats the difference between using a synthetic and polymers? temps here reach 127F+, ALOT of dust small sand particles flying around. very little rain)

    5. M26 Mirror glaze yellow wax OR NXT tech wax 2.0 OR Gold class Carnauba plus wax.

I know anyone i choose will give a great result. LOV Meguair's products, but what will give me the best wet look? this is were i need your advice in. TY.

M07, like deep crystal pure polish is a polish with no cleaners or abrasives. Its purpose is to enhance the depth and wet-look of the paint. Ultimate Polish is a polish with very mild cleaners. It goes well with UC since it will refine the finish left by the UC even more.

M20 Polymer Sealant is a cleaner wax, a synthetic sealant with a bit of carnauba in it. M21 is basically the pro version of the beloved NXT 2.0 Tech Wax.

On the 09 Yukon, you might need Ultimate Compound. Being a slightly older car, there is a chance that it has a couple of scratches, swirls here and there. So for me, clay, Ultimate compound, Ultimate polish, for maximum protection, go the synthetic route (Ultimate Wax), wait 12 hours, follow it up with M26 or Gold Class.

For the new Camaro, clay is a must, your paint even when new might still have those dealership instilled swirls. You can step down to SwirlX, but then you have to try it yourself if the paint behaves nicely with Ultimate Compound or swirlX or ultimate polish. As with the Yukon, Ultimate Wax will give the best protection of ALL MEGUIARS WAXES/SEALANTS. If you prep the paint real well, it will be almost impossible to tell the difference between NXT 2.0/Ultimate/Gold Class or M26. This goes for most if not all paints. However, if you do plan to top it up, M26 or even Deep Crystal Carnauba will more depth

Thanks a lot ffboy!!! you really cleared think up nicely. As you know Meguiar's does have a pretty large selection to choose from and it was all getting mumbled in my head, and thanks for explaining the difference between the polymer and synthetic........I was at a total lose there.

      Thank you

Re: Need advice on what Meguiar's products to use for a very wet look

I use M105/M205 then M21, pretty much the same as using Ultimate Compound/Ultimate Polish followed by Ultimate Wax. Not knowing the condition of the Camaro but knowing your climate is very harsh it would probably need the compound first. Are you using Lake Country pads or Meguiar's? I use Lake Country orange pads with M105 (UC) and white pads with M205 (UP) with for most General Motors paints. You can always switch it up a bit to see what results you get using the least aggresive method first. The orange cuts more, the white finishes better.

Another option is the Microfiber Correction System if available. I can usually finish GM paints pretty well with the D300 compound and a cutting pad without using a dedicated polishing step. Your options for polishing would be the MF polishing pad with either D301 (polish/wax), D302 (polish only and if available) or M205/UP.

My finishing steps are either M21 or Ultimate Wax on a Lake Country black or blue pad, depending on what I feel like using that day, wait 24 hours, top with (please forgive me) a Dodo Juice hard wax then a soft wax. You can always use M26 or Gold Class instead of the Dodo Juice. The Dodo Juice I feel has given me slightly better depth and warmth on certain colors.

You will most definitely need a quick detailer in the baby powder sand that is constantly in the air there. I'm still partial to the original Quik Detailer but I think you would be best served by one of the newer quick detailers in the line depending on how your last step wax/sealant reacts to it. Don't get me wrong, I like the new formulas, but they don't always sit well on top of some of my waxes/sealants. Meguiar's products usually all go well together, not always when you use something outside their line.

I'm sure you'll enjoy honing your skills with the new tools on your vehicles. The hardest part wil be keeping them clean in your climate once you've got them polished and waxed. Have fun, stay cool, and keep asking questions.

Thanks a million Romad81. Yeah will be my first with a DA and will have to experiment a lot to find what pads i might like and at the same time discovering the right polisher / waxes etc that will withstand my climate. More reason for me to polish more lol.

          Thanx

Re: Need advice on what Meguiar's products to use for a very wet look

Now after all that effort in achieving that wet look, maintain it with a good quality car wash (gold class) done weekly or depending on the environment, so more if needed, then follow it up with a good spray wax (Ultimate Quik Wax), and if the cars are only lightly dusty, Ultimate Quik Detailer works real well. Just remember to use quality wash mitts, microfiber towels and microfiber drying towels. This will minimize if not avoid any possibility of inflicting swirls. If done right, you will be surprised at how slick, shiny and contaminant free your paint will be and you'll find that your protective coating will last a lot longer and will be a lot easier to wash and dry.

And also use the 2 Bucket wash method and invest in a grit guard for each bucket so you don't accidentally dip you wash mitt in the dirt and sand in the bottom of the bucket and scratch up your paint.
