wax layering

What is your preferred method on layering wax? I'm fairly new to this concept as well as detailing but the bug has bitten me hard. As I've seen it has everyone else in this forum. Along with the meguiars insanity. I use to use only black magic but am now stepping up to the big leagues. But what is ur methods of wax? Personally I'm looking at doing a ulw followed by either gcpw or #26.

Synthetic Wax, wait 24 hours for optimum cross linking, followed by gold class carnauba plus or even deep crystal carnauba. Unless you're happy with the depth and shine with ultimate wax, you can just reapply another coat of ultimate.

That I was pretty sure of, sealant or synthetic on bottom with a carnauba on top. I guess I'm looking more towards what brand along with what everyone's personal system is, such as do u use nxt topped with ultimate topped with gc, along with liquid vs paste. Sorry if I'm unclear with what I'm trying to say. Just want to see what everybody else is doing out there.

What is the color of your car?
I have a silver car and I found that unlike a dark car, the wax layering would not improve the appearance for a silver car.

Well NXT al Ult Wax are both synthetics so I'm not sure there is much to gain there. I personally use NXT on white and silver vehicles and Ult Liquid Wax in everything else. I'm also not sure if there is anything to gain using liquid vs paste. I've always used liquid, I just find it easier and also Ult Liquid won't stain any black trim in case you are getting a little tired and sloppy. You might get a little more life out of your wax by layering but mostly it helps to insure that you didn't miss a spot on your first coat. I can almost promise i will be disagreed with on this though and thats fine. A lot of detail work is personal opinion and what works and looks good to YOU. What I do is wax with Ult Liquid and follow up with washes with Gold Class Shampoo and use Ult Quick Wax in between proper machine waxings. If you do however want to layer your wax many would suggest a synthetic first like NXT or Ult Wax paste/liquid then a 24 hour cure time then a carnauba like Gold Class Carnauba Plus. I use either ULW topped with M26 or M21 topped with M26.

Then maintain with M135 and D156.

I can depending on what products you use, I have owned mostly White and Silver cars over the years except for one Burgundy and one Dark Grey car...

It's the prep that's important, then 2X coats of sealant (M21, NXT, ULW) then 2X coats of M26 usually and then maintain it.

Maintain with M135 and D156 (UQD and UQW) and it will keep the paint looking dripping wet.

M26 has been around for a long time, I used to use that to top M20 and wax every other week about 20+ years ago...

I wash and wax often, wash about once a week and wax once a month. I found over the years that all Meguiares waxes work very well with my car (silver Mercedes). I found NXT, Synthetic Sealant, Ultimate Wax and even Cleaner Wax gives me good results.

I don't even apply 2 layers anymore since if I miss one spot this time, I will apply wax the next month.

ULW for the protection, optional top with M26. M26 will stain some trim so be careful. Personally I would do 2 coats of ULW if it is a daily driver. Maintain with WWA and D156.

The prep makes it pop, not the topper.

That's what I do with the truck, just 2X ULW and maintain with M135 and D156... Going to strip it with WGPPE and try out WGDGPS though here soon though to see what that's like. If I don't like it etc I will just go with M20 topped with M21 after for awhile.

The Jeep that is garage kept is 2X ULW topped with 2X M26.. Maintained with M135 and D156.

I am thinking you could do M20 to clean it up, wait 24 hours and top that with either 2X either M21 or ULW, then maintain with M135 and D156 for a long time.....

My first wax was with Meg's Gold Classic. Do you all recommend claying before Ultimate wax? Also, if you do the Ultimate and then carnauba combo, do you follow the same pattern the next time you wax (UW/Carnauba)? Lastly, why do you have to wait 24 hours before carnauba?

You only clay if you need to. Search the forum for baggie test to check your paint.

It's always synthetic first, cure and bond to paint for 24 hours, then if you want, apply carnauba.
