so what do you guys think about them, are they legit....

when i first heard about something you put on the car and it repels water for years and u dont have to wax the car for years, etc etc, it totally seemed like a as seen on tv fad that you see nowadays......

    is this the case?
if professional detailers are using these arent they reducing their clienteles number of visits, and affecting their own business.

anyways, im working on finishing a detail on my mercs 500sel 1985 by the end of the week
did my usual, gold class wash, mothers clay, M80, and then nxt 2.0 with 8006 and 9006 pads repectively

so im wondering should i put some sealant on and whcih one????
    opinions and thoughts please

    thanks,

I have heard nothing but good things about coatings. I see you are using NXT. That is a sealant. If you want a longer lasting sealant then ultimate wax would be the one to go with. It's currently the longest lasting wax offered by meguiar's.

i guess your right but nxt and waxes are different that the opticoat type sealants right...these seem like a clearcoat layer on top of what u already have....

the other one i was just looking at is the sonax polymer netsheild....seems similar in concept..

I tried Cquartz on my car a month ago; just putting it on the roof and hood. I like the result. It is a little pricy. Not sure about how long it will last.

I use Opti-Coat all the time and just started useing C. Quartz as well. I love these coating as they are great in help keep new cars in top shape and look the best.

There have been test done on the coating to show that they can in fact last years. I have been coating cars for a few months now and the results speak for themselves.

As for the money and clients you do charge a premium price for the coating plus the work tha has to be done to the vehicle. I do encourage all my customers to do monthly washes to kee up the coating in the best shape. If not the I put together a shopong list for them and hyave them buy all the items they need.

Maybe ill give one a try then. Which one can I put over the products I've used above.

Also can I put it on wheels. I have 3 piece amg wheels that have bare aluminum barrels and painted but not cleared faces. The aluminum always oxidizes. Difficult to maintain .

None will bond with any waxes or polish. You will need to do an IPA wipe done of each panel prior to applying the coating. Each coating will need to cure for at least 24 hours and not be exposed to any water during the curing time. You can use them on your wheels as well

so then whats the point in doing a correction first,......i mean in my scenario i guess i didnt do a massive correction, but i used the M80 and nxt and the car looks sharp.....i thought i could just seal that all in now with the opti coat? but if i alcohol the car down it will take away the characteristics the other products i used before?

Meguiar's doesn't have a coating and there's not much posted here about the various coatings and their application. Head over to the Autogeek forum. It has a ton of information on coatings.

A coating has to bond to the paints surface. Wax is a temporary sacrificial barrier intended to keep things OFF of the paints surface.

This is why as close to a perfect correction is optimal for a coating, as it will lock ANY visible imperfections underneath it. Its a resin coating. If you think of it in terms of laminating a piece of paper it makes sense. WHATEVER is on that paper before it goes in the lamination machine is locked in. So too is the surface of a vehicle with a coating on it.

                    hope that helps

so essentially u can put it on after a correction with compound because that will remove scratches etc, and then after a glaze or polish....to enhance the color.......but after that...no wax, sealant instead..

In theory, yes (at least to the compound and polish--glazes are a different story). I say theory because some polishing compounds still contain oils and the like that will prevent the coating from bonding. Since the coating is so expensive, might as well spend the extra 20 mins and wipe the car with IPA first. When using good towels and technique to do so, it will not inflict any marks on your soon to be sealed paint. In fact, it is used as an inspection tool to check progress on paint correction work by many detailers since it removes any fillers on the paint and shows the true condition.
