  • foam pad disintergrating please help and advise

so briefly, im a weekend warrior detailer. A few yrs ago i purchased a PC7336 and taught my self how to detail from the various forums out there..

ive been pretty satisfied with simple products like mothers clay and meguiars nxt 2.0. I have also used there Meg 80

anyways,so the last time i used my pads was maybe 3 years ago, I had a 9006 and 8006 meg 6 inch pads, and used the nxt and meg 80 on them respectively

when i was done detailing i washed the pads, dried them and stored them in ziploc bags

well today decided to use them again, and i noticed the 9006 pads is pretty crumbly....why is that

    the 8006 is ok

i know alot of people just use MF pads now instead, and im wondering if i should just buy those instead

again..i dont do full details often, just when i have 3-4 days to do a car...

anyways, what do u guys think , thanks

Hmm.. that's strange. Sounds like you did all the right things.

What do you mean by "pretty crumbly"? It's not just old dried up product falling out is it? I've had that before.

Were the pads completely dry before you put them in the ziplocs?

    Any pics?

Don't give up on foam pads. They have their place, especially when little to no cut is involved.

I think Davey hit on it, I would wash the "crumbly" pad real good, let it dry and reassess. NXT 2.0 and other full synthetics can be a bear to clean out of pads.

Crumbly like the edges were falling apart. What's weird was the 8006 was ok. Just the 9006 . Remember I hadn't used the pads for 3 yrs or so.

I had a six inch mf bonnet that I put over the 9006 and just used it with the 7336 and nxt 2.0

These are just generic bonnets I received back then when I ordered the pads. Not sure if I should use them in that manner

Luckily I do have a few extra 8 and 9006 pads so worse case ill just use a new one.

On a different note what other product do u recommend adding to my line up

I think I need a bettercutting product. I don't think my #80 does much. And it's not easiest to get off. Thanks.

Depending on what you're working on and what you're trying to achieve, I'd recommend Ultimate Compound.

well ive noticed that the 80 doesnt do much for i guess more stubbord scratches

they must be too deep for the 80. I probably bought that back then because i didnt want anything to strong. i think the stronger compound will just be for certain spots....

any thoughts on that new product i say the guys do a video with mike phillips...seems interesting
