Ok, so whenever i see anything with "safety" in the title, i figure its a good time to get in a nap.....however......
I was on a call for a trauma the other day at a local repair garage and got to thinking about my own safety while looking around the place, ( read - deathtrap ).
Being a firefighter / EMT for the last 18 years, safety is just natural for me. But what about you? Not that we do anything that is dangerous or risky, but there are things that can easily and inexpensively put in place. I'm a mobile unit and here are a few things that i do to keep myself, my family and my insurance agent happy. Also to keep him and Labor and Industries happy, i keep a full set of MSDS sheet with me too. Just never know who's watching and going to ask questions....just sayin.
* Use high visibility 12/3 power cords. Easy to see on the ground, 12g wire for fire / overload protection. And those are in a......
*Portable GFI circuit breaker. Any time i use customers power, or my gen set, all power is run through a GFI breaker. Water, electricity, mixing....do the math.
*10 lb. ABC Dry chemical fire extinguisher......self explanatory.
*Safety glasses, gloves. If Wheel Brightener is bad for paint and specific wheel types, eyes and bare skin is probably on the menu too!!
*Mask. If i'm misting anything other than water, i really dont want to breathe it. I's sure its mostly harmless, i guess we'll find out in 25-30 years.
*Cones - I cone off my work area if i'm in a parking lot or if on the side of a road.
*Hand sanitizer - Seen some NASTY stuff in cars, still not real sure what it was - but i hate it.
*And just general safe practices - hot water is...hot, razors are sharp, long hair and anything that spins - ouch. Common sense things that we may not think about until it happens.....
Stay Safe!
Mike
Just want to keep everyone safe and ready for that next high end job that comes around!
