  • Ultimate Wax durability?

First off I just want to say that after using UW for the first time a few weeks ago, I'm pretty impressed with the results. Great slickness and gloss. A noticable difference from my previous LSP (#21 2.0). Was perplexed at how it was applying so thin and seemed to evaporate in some areas. But after reading up, I found that this is normal.

In any case I'd like to know how durable it is against bug n tar removers (Tarminator) or water spot removers (Duragloss). Would these products strip or diminish the sealant?

I've also coated my wheels. And even though I only use soap n water or a rinseless wash solution, I do use an APC for the tires which will usually result in some runoff onto the wheel.

Tar removers and water spot removers can be potent and will likely remove or at best diminish Ultimate Wax or other waxes/sealants. As for the wheels, I'm not sure if you meant that you applied Ultimate Wax on them, no real harm in doing that, but Ultimate Wax may not last on wheels. Wheels are definitely one of the toughest on waxes/sealants. The combination of extreme heat, break dust, and one of the first areas on a car that encounter all the dirt, crud, grime on the road really compromises the durability of many waxes and sealants. For wheel cleaning, an all wheel and tire cleaner will do nicely, and for better protection, meguiar's brake dust barrier will keep your wheels looking good and much easier to clean

UW is very durable, however I reckon a bug and tar remover would strip it, and APC would deplete it. Not sure about a water spot remover...

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

Can you recommend any other sealant (other than a coating) that would stand up better? I ask cause I was planning to fully detail my clear coated wheels and topping them with ULW.

There is no other more durable sealant made by Meguiars at the moment.

I'm not sure about other manufacturers, but I doubt you'll get any sealant to withstand repeated exposure to those chemicals.

I'm really tempted to try CG Wheel Guard or Poorboy's Wheel Sealant, but I'm with you on how long anything will last on a wheel when exposed to the heat from daily driving. Plus I rather spend the money on a Megs product that I know will work.

Have you had a look at Meguiars Brake Dust Barrier? I've seen a few good reviews about it..

I use brake dust barrier as a wheel coating myself. I have been happy with it. It seems to be very durable and it makes the wheels easier to clean. You should look into using a dedicated wheel & tire cleaner like D143 to get better results cleaning the wheels.

I've read Duragloss 501 RV & Marine Cleaner Polish works well on wheels, during the winter. You may try Meguiar's #50 Marine & RV Cleaner Wax. Or, apply one coat of UP and two coats of UW.
