  • Review: HD Nitro Seal

I hope this is not against forum rules to post review of other products beside megs. If it is, mods kindly remove this thread.

I was the given the opportunity to try HD Nitro Seal and review it. Nitro Seal is a revolutinary two part copolymer paint sealnt that is suppose to look great and outlast most other LSPs. Protection is suppose to last up to 1 year based on typical car usage.

I use my personal vehicles for a test bed for most products so I figured I would use the hood of my 350z. It is a nice deep blue with lots of mettalic
so it showed the looks of the coating quite well.

This is how Nitro Seal arrived. Boxed very nicely

Contents of the package. Come with everything needed to apply and remove the sealant. Mf towel could be nicer but surprised it actually came with one. 2-part coating comes in metal cans that are filled with nitrogen. Gotta be careful as these are easy to spill after opening.

After washing, the hood was gone over with HD polish(Great finishing polish!!) via rupes 21 and lc black finishing pad. I then did a IPA wipe down just to
make sure the hood was completely clean for the coating to bond. Hood is almost 100% defect/swirl free other then a few chips and
deeper scratches not worth going after.

    Kit even came with gloves

Part A of the two part coating. This part has a very oily liquid like consistency.

It was very easy to apply. Hard to capture but after applying you do see some high spots and streaks. Instructions say this is perfectly fine and will
go away with the additional steps.

Part B is much thicker and for me a little harder to apply. Both parts go along way so only a few drops on the applicators are needed for most panels.

Both part A and B on hood curing. Gave it 30 mins to cure per instructions.

Coating buffed off using supplied MF. Little harder to buff off then expected. Could be I used to much product along with heat.

They say that the looks get even better after some time curing. These pics are after a full 4 days and a wash. I agree with what they say, the looks got even better!

    Close up

First off I would like to thank HD for letting me try this coating.

    Thoughts:
    Product
    - Great packaging and great instructions.
    - Seems to be good value as you can probably do at least 2 vehicles with the supplied contents.
    - MF towel is not of high quality. It is an ok towell but I would have used something better if I had been working on softer
    paint.
    - While the containers of the coating are cool, you must be careful not to spill or overuse.
    Application
-While this coating is a little more complicated(2-part) then the other coatings I have tried, it is still very easy to use.
I think anyone with a little detailing knowledge would be fine with the application.
-I think I put it on a little to thick and it might have been a little warm. The coating was a little harder removing then I am used to, to
to. Again, it was not terrible, just harder then the waxes and sealants I normally use.
    Looks
    - Great reflective deep gloss. Deeper shine then a normal sealant in my eyes. Very impressed with the look for a coating that should last a very long time.

I am going to leave this on the hood and see how long it lasts. This car is my every day driver and sits outside 24/7 so it will be interesting to see the longevity of the coating.
Overall I think this is a great product and will use it again in the future.

      Thanks for the review.

I'm interested to see how long it lasts..

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

While we don't mind discussing other products on MOL and we know that not everyone is going to be a 100% Meguiar's user and we know that there are a lot of really nice products on the market for all sorts of applications, we do have one question for you:

Is this review part of HD's program wherein they give you free product if you post a review of that product on multiple forums? If so, and this goes for anyone else reading this and thinking of doing this, we just ask that you disclose such information when making posts about their products, or anyone else's product for that matter.

There is a lot of controversy in the online detailing community about this practice of giving away free product in exchange for reviews. We just want people to be aware of this practice so they can decide for themselves. That said, we know the guys over at HD and they do make some excellent products. Some folks just question this program of theirs.

Almost forgot: Let's all remember our forum rules against bashing here. If we're OK with DeepShineDetailing posting this, you should be, too. (Stephan, no, this comment is NOT directed at you - we appreciate your perspective!)

I agree I think its only fair to anyone reading that they know what is going on and that its part of a program.

            Nice Review.
Be sure to post this on AutoGeek too.
I don't like the curing time, but the results look good.
I'd like to see reviews every 6 months on this to see how well it's lasts.

Thanks for the positive comments and for the clarification Mr. Stoops. Yes this was part of the program they were offering. I will say that being able to try this product for free had no bearing on my review. I just simply would not say something was something it wasn't as I am not like that. I actually searched and tried to see if posting this review was going to be frowned upon or not. I seen where other people reviewed and talked about non megs products so I figured I would post this and post what I said at the beginning of taking this thread down if there was a problem.

                Re: Review: HD Nitro Seal

Looks like a nice shine but I'm always skeptical of claims that a product will last a year as there are way too many variables to factor in and I'm not sure what it does to the paint to enable a year's protection. That said..... I've been loyal to Meguiar's for a long, long time now and just last night finished putting a coat of White Wax on my 370Z. I don't know how anything available could put a better shine and reflection on the car and the paint is so smooth that it's almost impossible to walk by without running a hand over it. People are always amazed when I let them feel the freshly washed car and I have to give props to Nissan for putting a nice finish on the car to begin with. I know there are other good products available but I'm a firm believer in "if it ain't broke..............".
