  • Polishing by Hand - Black Wax AIO or Ultimate Polish?

Hey guys, first post, but I've been lurking here for quite awhile. I'm also on Autogeek, and both these sites have offered me an incredible amount of help and information, so thanks!

This is probably a no brainer question, but I just thought I'd run it by here in case someone had some great insight. For a little side info, I'm applying by hand and I'm not looking at any paint correction at the moment (I'm saving for a DA and will worry about that later), but I'm looking to get a little more out of my car's shine. I'm looking at Black Wax or Ultimate Polish. I know that BW is an AIO and UP is a finishing polish, but I'm looking at getting maximum shine/reflection and ease of use here.

Regardless of which polish step I use, I will be using the following products:

    1. Meguiars Gold Class Car Wash
    2. Meguiars Clay Bar Kit
    3. BW or UP
    4. Meguiars Ultimate Paste Wax

I know some people like AIOs,some like dedicated polishing, and either can be used depending on circumstance, but I was just curious if there was going to be much difference in appearance between them when applying by hand. I know I can follow up either step with the UPW so I'm good to go there. I also realize that applying by hand there may be little result at all if the paint doesn't cooperate, but I'd like to try.

Here are a couple of pictures that have my listed steps 1, 2, and 4 on them:

Black Wax would have more polishing oils. White Wax would be stronger, more chance for correction, or if there were heavier dirt.

I really dont know that you will see a big difference either way.... if going for 2 coats of wax, the Black Wax would be a step quicker...

If you are planing on waxing anyways, go with UP.
Altho Black Wax is a good AIO and does everything well, separate steps with UP and UW will yield better results in my opinion.

I think visually, the difference would be negligable.

If you're the sort of person who likes to put on two coats of wax, then I'd go with BW followed by UW, simply because that will save you a step.

If you're going to do one coat of wax, I'd go with UP, then UW.

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

I kinda figured the difference between looks would be negligible, but I wanted to make sure. I'll probably go with UP because I already have the Ultimate Quik Wax that I use as well, so I don't really need to worry about a second coat of wax. Thanks for the help, everyone!

Spooky Mulder? I haven't heard that name in a few years. Go with the UP since you already have it on hand.
