  • Help a Newb!

Hi everybody, I'm new to this whole detailing thing and I've been researching products and decided to go with Meguiar's. I think I have a system figured out for my first detail and just wanted some feedback on what you guys think. My last car was a cavalier and I have to admit I didn't take great care of it beyond Turtle wax and Armor-All(i know..). I just bought my dream car,it's a 2002 Mits Eclipse painted Dover White Pearl. It only had one owner and the finish is in pretty good condition except for some swirls and light scratches, mainly in the hood. So here's what I plan to do:
    1) Wash entire car top to bottom with Dawn detergent
    2) Dry car top to bottom with leaf blower and Megs WW
    MF towel (any drying tips?)
    3) Claybar entire car with Megs c-2000 and #34,wash with
    NXT to remove residue,dry car.
    4) Use Megs #9 Swirl remover(by hand) to get rid of the swirl
    marks(tips?)
    5) Apply #7 Glaze and remove with MF towel
    6) Seal with #20 Polymer sealant
    7) Wax with #26 High tech yellow wax
    8) Maintain with a weekly wash of NXT

This car is an everyday car and I don't plan to show it,I just want it too look good. So what do you guys think about my plan?

    Hi DawgFather

    Welcome to Meguiar's Online!

Everything looks good except for using M09 Swirl Remover 2.0 by hand to remove swirls. If you look at the bottle, it has a picture of a rotary buffer on it, best results for removing swirls with M09 is with a rotary buffer, by hand it will not do much unless your paint is very soft and you use a lot of passion as this is a very, very light cleaner/polish.

Instead, use ScratchX with a little passion.

How to remove a defect by hand with ScratchX

Thanx for the quik reply Mike! So I should use Scratch X? Will It work well on the Swirls? I just figured "Swirl Remover" for swirls and "ScratchX" for scratches. Is Scratchx more abrasive than #9? and if so is that why it's easier to use by hand? I will eventually get a rotary but can't afford one now, so all by hand
Thanx again for the reply and glad to be a member!
