I have done a couple roughly 5 year old trucks (one Tacoma and one Tundra) that were both SS white (neither had been taken care of at all and not only turned pads white, but also the wash water as di much dead paint came off with just washing). Neither had been repainted.

I can't say anything for currently, but up until at least five years ago, it seems like they were at least using SS white on trucks.

These all sound like repaints to me.
Luckily I don't work on Toys or Honda either.
Can someone confirm this? With something from Toy and not just hearsay.
Well since I have personal experience and am not just recycling information, it is not hearsay. If you take ten minutes of Google searching or find a client with an all white Tundra or Sequioa or....(especially up to 2008--the later years are still in question)you will find out for yourself.

Even the current Trucks use 040 white and 202 black according to: http://www.toyotareference.com/sequoia
and some further reading on enthusiast sites everywhere will have reference to both these colors being SS with only the occasional (and quickly corrected) interjection from some well meaning (but incorrect) guy stating it's BC/CC

          Re: Single Stage Paint

Just walked by a Toy Seq in the parking lot, it was white and defiantly looked like bad SS paint.
Thanks for the info and I'll be sure to ask if I ever get a call for one of these.
Luckily I don't do these cars but I'm sure that will all change now that I've made that statement.

            Re: Single Stage Paint

I actually really enjoy working on SS paint. Heavy oil products like #7 followed by #80 bring results that are much more satisfying to me than the average 105/205 BC/CC job. One red Miata I did about 15 years ago was so bad the color was coming off while washing. Had it been BC/CC, it would have been in clear coat failure and needed a respray. I was able to restore this Miata to better than new condition and have never been more satisfied with a detail.

              Re: Single Stage Paint

While Toyota isn't the only manufacturer still using single stage paints on some colors, they don't use it on all their non metallics. The 2011 Toyota Prius that is a regular at our TNOGs has non metallic black paint, and it's definitely got clear on it - we've worked on that car numerous times. Another thing that is really important to remember here is that any single stage paints currently being used are NOT the same chemistry as the old single stage lacquers and enamels of days gone by. These are modern, catalyzed single stage paints and much tougher than those classic lacquers because the chemistry of the paint is radically different.

When you're selecting a product to work on single stage or base/clear, the most important considerations are what you're looking to accomplish, what condition the paint is in right now, and whether you're working with a buffer of some sort or by hand. Whether the paint is single stage or base/clear is probably the least of your concerns, actually, as there are just so many other variables. How badly dried out is the paint? Are there deep scratches, heavy oxidation, or just minor swirls?

As to the original question here: yes, UC is great on single stage paint and, contrary to Mario's assertion that UC is a very dry product, it's actually quite a wet compound that offers a very long buffing cycle (work time, or whatever you want to call it). M105, from which UC is derived, can be very dry especially when used on older, dried out paint. We wouldn't recommend it for use on old, heavily oxidized singe stage paint but it's great if the paint is otherwise "workable".

Yeah, I can confirm it. Until recently, I've owned Hondas for 35 consecutive years before going All American over the last 2 months . Honda still uses single stage paint for it's Taffeta White and San Marino Red painted vehicles.
