  • Final Decisions before i buy my first kit

    Hi Everyone, This will be my starter kit so I am looking for some advice.

    Setup;

    Meguiar's Professional Dual Action Polisher

    Lake Country Orange Light Cutting Flat 5.5 inch Foam Pad (3ea)

    Lake Country White Polishing Flat 5.5 inch Foam Pad (3ea)

    Lake Country Blue Finessing Flat 5.5 inch Foam Pad (2ea)

    Lake Country Dual-Action Hook & Loop Flexible BackingPlate 5" LC-43-125DA

    Meguiar's Ultimate Compound

    Meguiar's Ultimate Polish

    Meguiar’s #21 2.0 Sealant

    Meguiar's Supreme Shine Microfiber Cloths (3ea Pack of 3)
    Polishing Pad Cleaner

    Meguiar's G15812 Ultimate Black Plastic Restorer

    Meguiar’s Fine Cut Metal Polish

    Meguiar's C-2000 Professional Detailing Clay, Mild

    Meguiar’s Mirror Glaze #34 Final Inspection

    Questions;

    The reason I am going with Lake country pads is because everyone I talk to you has told me to go with 5.5" pads. Any Thoughts?

    My truck has been neglected for a few years and I want to spend some time taking care of it, and I think with a DA I would enjoy it more. I am thinking of washing, clay, ultimate compound, ultimate polish, and finish with #21 2.0 sealant. Would a paint cleaner be recommended since it has been so long? Also, would Professional Machine Glaze 3 be helpful?I have a 2000 White Ford F250 Superduty.

    This should help with my final decision,

    Thanks guys!

    Looks like you got a good set up. I use the 5.5" pads as well. I use the lake country black/grey pad instead of blue for waxes/sealants but blue would be fine. I would not worry about the glaze or paint cleaner. The clay bar and compound will take care of that for you. You might want to throw in a bottle of ultimate quick wax to use in between washes to maintain the hard work you put in. The rest looks good.

      Your list looks sound.

      You'll probably need more than 3 MF towels though (unless you already have some?).

      I agree about the UQW and the 5.5in pads.

      Also, you may want to add some Last Touch for clay lube.

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

        I was going to use Mirror Glaze #34 Final Inspection for clay lube. Is last touch better?

          ^^ Oh, ok. No, they're both pretty good.

          I think the LT would work out cheaper though.

            LC makes great pads, no doubt about it. If you want to go with 5.5" pads then they would be the choice, but we seem to be able to do just fine with our own 7" pads on our DA so......

            That process would be the starting point we recommend. Ultimate Compound would be classified as a paint cleaner so there's no need to add anything to this mix. What you have lined up is the exact same process that we teach in our Saturday Classes other than the M21 - we use Ultimate Wax, but M21 is great stuff too, so if that's what you like, go for it. M03 Machine Glaze isn't going to do much at all for you, especially since you're already going with Ultimate Polish. The two products do much the same thing you'd be duplicating a step, which is really just a waste of time.

              thank you all for your input. Whats the difference between #21 and Ultimate wax? Would there be any benefit to top either off with #26?

                Michael, for my test spot I was thinking to start with the polish pad and Ultimate Polish. Do you think this is a good starting point? or since there is moderate swirls and stains I could start with the Polishing pad with Ultimate Compound? Thank you!

                  Ultimate wax is meguiar's longest lasting wax. I have used ultimate wax and have gotten about 4-5 months out of it with ultimate spray wax in between washes. I just got some M21 and will be trying it out to compare. In my opinion, you will be fine with either one. I have not experimented with topping off wither with M26 so I can't comment on that. I have read that M21 and M26 make a good combo.

                  Sounds like a good plan.

                    backing plate

                    I like the 5 inch pad because its easier to move around curves on car. Thinking of buying a 3 inch polisher to do those hard to reach areas
